Guest guest
I have not done a total and exhaustive study on melatonin, but after looking at roughly 150 articles using the “hypersensitivity melatonin peripheral neuropathy” search string in both google and pubmed, I find melatonin is often used icw B-12 and other things to treat the condition. The only issue anyone takes with melatonin is in very, very high dosage. 90+ mg per day. I did find reference in 2 articles pertaining to issues with itching and some swelling as a hypersensitive reaction, but nothing thus far with peripheral neuropathy. Obviously, if there are issues that can be traced to the use of anything, not just melatonin, logic dictates that its use should be avoided. I will post more on this when I hear from the other researchers I have written to specifically about this. Steve, Question 1: Why in the morning? Melatonin is one of those things like LDN that is produced in the majority by the pineal somewhere between 3 and 4 in the early morning hours. Question 2: Where in the world did you find a mcg version? I have never seen anything smaller than a 1 mg tablet? This is, as far as I know, a unique thing with the peripheral neuropathy. I will some digging for you. I have never heard of it, but I do know a couple of people who have worked extensively with melatonin icw cancer protocols and I will also pose this question to them. Will post when I get a response or find something on it. Bruce, I am glad to hear in your other posts that you are well and pushing your cancer toward remission! I have tried to add Melatonin to my morning regimen (150 mcg... repeat micrograms ) but each time I do, I experience peripheral neuropathy in my limbs later in the day and especially toward bedtime when I am readding in bed or at times if I get up during the night. Sometimes it is very mild but at other times it is so strong that it is really frightening. Do you happen to know what causes this? Anyone else? [low dose naltrexone] Melatonin not a good sleep aid because it works via opiatergic mechanism... Melatonin works via some sort of opioidergic channels apparently if no one knew and I have seen people here advocate its use. While it isnt entirely clear how it works, there is enough evidence of its interaction with opioid channels in humans (via pubmed.com) and of its blockage with opioid antagonists that i dont think we should advocate use of it for a sleep aid probably while on naltrexone. Just a thought
