Guest guest
My husband, who has Parkinson's, has pain in his right hand and arm that seems to match the descriptions of neuropathy. He has been on LDN since the end of March and it has done nothing for his arm, but has helped in many other ways. Sinemet, a Parkinson's medication, has not helped his arm either. His neurologist was sure it was carpal tunnel, even though nerve conduction testing was negative, so he gave Rick a shot of cortisone in the wrist, but that provided no relief either. At least that definitively ruled out carpal tunnel. Guest guest
Hi Carol, I have been taking 4.5mg of LDN for multi focal motorneuropathy of the right hand and arm since 7th April 2005. My GP went along with my request as, quote, " it cannot hurt you. " My neuro was dismissive so is unaware of my trial. Unfortunately I have to report that to date I have NOT had any benefit. I intend continueing with the LDN for 6 months and then review the situation. I have been having treatment with IVIG on a two weekly basis which has contained my situation. I have had the problem since August 1999. Being in Australia I unable to help wth the prescribing doctor. Good luck! with best wishes Tony. > From: " carol_bellon " <cbellon@...> > Reply-low dose naltrexone > Date: Thu, 14 Jul 2005 17:43:18 -0000 > low dose naltrexone > Subject: [low dose naltrexone] Peripheral Neuropathy and LDN > > > My dad has peripheral neuropathy which may be due to an auto immune > problem. Guest guest
Kathie, Have you had the chance to try DL-Phenylalanine yet? It says it is good for pain and for depression. I can't say if it helps with the pain as has not been in pain. But is sure helps with depression. So I am hoping that it is effective for pain as well. Please let me know if he has already tried it, or what the results are if he decides to try it. Thanks Aletha Re: [low dose naltrexone] Peripheral Neuropathy and LDN > My husband, who has Parkinson's, has pain in his right hand and arm that > seems to match the descriptions of neuropathy. Guest guest
try 300mcgs of b6 for one month only, then reduce it to 200. my doctor who is a homeopath told me about that when i had neuropathy and it worked. If he has PD tremors, NADH can help that as well. Guest guest
Yes, Rick has been taking DL-Phenylalanine. He started a couple weeks ago taking 2 a day (AM and noon) but hadn't noticed any change with his arm but did notice his blood pressure creeping up so dropped back to just one a day. He had just weaned off blood pressure medication after being on it for 10 years. I think all the supplements he is taking was helping to keep it down without the medicine. Maybe it will be worth him trying the DL-Phenylalanine at two a day longer and just get back on the BP medicine if needed. Guest guest
Kathie, Dr. Bihari has said that DL-Phenylalanine has a tendency to raise BP. Guest guest
Hi Kathie, I am sorry, It don't think it is good to take DL-Phenylalanin with high blood pressure (I am not 100% on that). Guest guest
I will share my BP story- I have high blood pressure and went on DLPA in May. I took my blood pressure everyday and it did rise a bit. Dr. Bihari said I could take a lower dose of DLPA. I took 375mg. instead of 500mg. for a few weeks. I did not feel as well on the lower dose so I went back to the 500 mg. My BP normalized after a few weeks. I saw my doctor this morning and my BP was 118/80. I take 20 mg of vasotec daily for my BP. -Sue Re: [low dose naltrexone] Peripheral Neuropathy and LDN>>>>>> > My husband, who has Parkinson's, has pain in his right hand and>> arm that>> > seems to match the descriptions of neuropathy. Guest guest
Carol, I take the DLPA and LDN for my chronic progressive MS. Guest guest
Yes, we were aware of DL-Phenylalanine raising blood pressure and Rick has been monitoring his BP. So we are not sure which is best to do--take the DL-Phenylalanine and go back on blood pressure medication or take neither. Guest guest
Kathie, I agree with Aletha and others. I think not taking DL-Phenyl. is the lesser of the two evils by far. It is wonderful your husband has been able to wean himself off the blood pressure med as there are many side effects associated with it. It is too risky for him to continue with the amino acid in my opinion. What is he taking it for? If you want to help peripheral neuropathy, try alpha lipoic acid. It is good for the liver and helps regenerate nerves (lots of anecdotal info with ms) Kathy Re: [low dose naltrexone] Peripheral Neuropathy and LDN> > > > My husband, who has Parkinson's, has pain in his right hand and > arm that> > seems to match the descriptions of neuropathy.
