Guest guest
Group, I have a friend who is a cardiologist, who has taken over many of my patients care when I have just asked for a consult. That makes me mad, but When he called me for his other refill but hasn't seen me since 2006 for GERD and PPI they just just expect a refill. His wife came to his last appointment in May and did the same thing. I billed her, but got the call a month later. hat is this bill for? Are they stupid? Do they think I am a fooooool. I tired of nickle and diming patients for a living, but where should I stand? Guest guest
I guess you are using the term “friend” loosely here. It sounds like you guys have different expectations. Perhaps a sit down is a good idea, after all, he needs an appointment anyway, right? Guest guest
I too bill patients if they walk in and want more than just pick up a form, etc. They also are confused as to why they got a bill for that day. I had one old couple keep me in the waiting room with them through my lunch. Kept trying to get away, kept thinking this is their last question. Now THIS is the last question...on and on. Billed them both. I think what is best is to forewarn them as soon as you realize this is a billable event. Or, stop it right there and say that this conversation is sounding like we should make a visit. Maybe even squeeze the wife in as a quick visit and schedule a comprehensive. I now feel that surprise bills are not alwats necessary if the conversation converts to a visit right there. Time allowing. Guest guest
YEs mrs smith I thought they might tell you that Is is so frustrating:) So how often do we get " you miscoded my labs/visit/whatever. The lab/insurance/Payless clerk says you need to recode it. We say no, no, (sorry not yes, yes) I did not miscode it, it is a noncovered service. Or covered if I lie about the diagnosis. To: Sent: Wednesday, July 1, 2009 8:48:25 PMSubject: RE: I am sooo Mad No way would I pay my patients labs. I'm sorry she didn't misunderstood what was included in your services but that does not make me responsible for the bill. You could call your rep and confirm that they billed her as uninsured as that sometimes gets messed up. Once you've verified she was billed correctly it's up to her. Unless severely disabled she needs to call the lab and make a payment plan. I get the impression that she comes across as " entitled " and that doesn't mean you have to play into that. I hope you keep your boundaries. Yes, I hear you about your patient with Parkinson's. A homebound patient of mine died today. She made it home from the hospital one last time. Her pain was controlled. She managed to celebrate her birthday yesterday. It is a humbling experience to be able assist in the process of life's transistions. It helps balance the tough patients.
