==========

During the first 3 months on LDN one might experience increased symptoms off and

on during your body's adjusting to the endorphin production. Increasing your

dosage has increased the amount of endorphins you are producing.

For those of you in the first 3 months of LDN therapy Dr. Bob Lawrence from the

UK who has MS & uses LDN himself explains why the temporary increase in MS

symptoms.

When starting this LDN(Low Dose Naltrexone) therapy in the treatment of MS,

there may also be some initial transient, though temporary, increase in MS

symptoms.

Experience in using this method has demonstrated most commonly, such as

disturbed sleep, occasionally with vivid, bizarre and disturbing dreams,

tiredness, fatigue, spasm and pain. These increased symptoms would not normally

be expected to last more than seven to ten days.

Rarely, other transient symptoms have included more severe pain and spasm,

headache, diarrhea or vomiting. These additional symptoms would appear to be

associated with the previous frequent use of strong analgesics, which

effectively create an addiction and dependency, thus increasing the body's

sensitivity to pain. This temporary increase in symptoms may also perhaps be

explained when we consider the manner in which this drug is expected to work.

Initially, MS occurs due to a reduction in the activity of the controlling

influence of the suppressor T-cells within the immune system. During an acute

relapse, the overall number of T-cells is reduced, the normal balance of helper

T-cells and suppressor T-cells is disrupted and the damaging helper (CD-4)

T-cells tend to predominate. This is the situation most pronounced during an

acute relapse but occurs similarly, but to a lesser extent, in chronic

progressive MS. Under the influence of LDN there will be an expected increase in

the overall numbers of T-cells but, because the CD-4, helper T-cells tend to

predominate at this time, an increase in their numbers will expectedly tend to

increase MS symptoms. It is only when the numbers of suppressor T-cells

effectively & quot;catch up & quot; that the normal balance is restored and

symptoms once again diminish and improve.

In addition, because LDN stimulates the immune system and many of the drugs

routinely used by the NHS in the treatment of MS further suppress the immune

system, LDN cannot be used in company with steroids, beta interferon,

methotrexate, azathioprine or mitozantrone or any other immune suppressant drug.

If there is any doubt, please submit a full list of the drugs you are presently

taking so that their compatibility may be assessed.

In addition, because LDN will also block the analgesic effects of any opiate

drugs (includes codeine, dihydrocodeine, morphine, pethidine or diamorphine)

presently being taken, the use of LDN will initially greatly increase the level

of pain experienced. It is therefore advisable that any opiate-like drugs be

discontinued at least two weeks before this treatment is initiated. When

starting the treatment it is essential that any untoward or adverse side-effects

are reported immediately so that the treatment process can be further assessed

and, if necessary, modified.

Hi RK,

Hang in there for a while as increased symptoms do seem to happen to some people. If you don't seem to get relief in a few weeks, you may wish to try doing the liquid form (adding your cancel into water) and see if that helps. My mother was in terrible shape with Parkinson's about 1.5 years ago. She is not taking LDN, but she is taking something called the "Push" and it has gone wonderfully. She also takes many supplements. She can now walk normally, does not stare into space for a while before answering questions, she no longer has a stone face, and her handwriting is normal again. She does still shake just a bit in her right arm when she gets nervous. But that med is very expensive ($60,000 so far), and she still needs to have injections on a weekly basis. She had been doing 3-5 per week for a long while.

I hope this helps. Please let me know if you have any questions.

My best

Aletha

Well folks It been now going on my forth week. Stared on 1.5 mg's for the first two weeks then I finally got thru to "THE WIFE" that I did not think that it was doing me much help , being on the 1.5mg's, and wanted to start the 3.0 mg's. And guess what "SHE AGREED", so I started the 3.0mg's pills, when I say pills what I did was to take two [2] 1.5mg pills.

Last night I took my two [2] pills at 9:30 PM and finally went to sleep at around 2:00 AM, which is around an hour earlier then normal. Normally I have a very hard time sleeping, but with even the 1.5mg pills I slept a lots better then I ever did in the last 6 years, so that taking the LDN just might be the reason, I hope. But now that I am on the 3.0mg pill I am getting tired a lots faster when i'm working out in my shop then I ever did when I was not on the LDN. Plus now I am also experiencing trouble with my right leg It now has a problem that I can not control, It shakes when ever I try and put my full body weight on it. The shake is something that I did not have last week, until yesterday I had never experience, and it sure makes walking almost impossiable. If I now walk STIFF LEGGED I can walk on my right leg. But if I even try and walk normal, bending my knee when I walk like normal people do, I have a problem walking I frezze UP like I have never done in my life.

Has anybody else had any experience's like this, is this normal for first time user's??? Or am I experiencng something new??????

TX's for any and all help that you might give.

Aletha, if your mom is doing pure pc injections, check out calcium eap perhaps. It is much less expensive and has many similarities. I don't know if it is indicated for Parkinsons but it might be worth looking into. All the best, Kathy

Who compounded your script and what filler was used? Maybe you need to get 2.0 mgs for a month. I did notice an increase in symptoms and feeling worse before I got better. This new symptom you are having could be something that is a healing opportunity. Your CNS is like an onion. You have to peel away the layers as you get better. Why don't you call Skip? He can help alleviate some of your concerns or perhaps find a reason for this. He has alot of experience with LDN and it might just give you the guidance you need right now. I just don't believe it can permanently make you worse but I don't want to say NEVER. I think you will get better. My best time to take it seems to be around 11:00. Why don't you try that tonight? Skip or Phil will answer calls late at night. It is 561-218-0111. GodBless, Kathy

Hi, -

I just started LDN last Thurs (just took my 6th 3.0 mg caplet), and I too am having problems with my legs. I feel tired all day, and have difficulty sleeping at night. I'm concerned that I am getting worse on LDN, but will ride it out. Liquid LDN is looking better and better to me, as I can control the dosage better. Anybody help us out there???

Thanks,

I STARTED AT I.5 FOR A MONTH AND THEN WENT UP TO 3.0. I AM CONVINCED IF I HAD STARTED AT 3.0, THERE WOULD HAVE BEEN AN ADVERSE REACTION. I KNOW IT WOULD HAVE BEEN TEMPORARY BUT I WANTED TO EASE INTO THE LDN AND I.5 WAS MY COMFORT ZONE. WHY DON'T YOU GET SKIP TO COMPOUND YOU A MONTHS SUPPLY AND THEN INCREASE YOUR DOSE? IT WILL ONLY COST YOU 10.00 TO FIND OUT IF IT WORKS. BEST WISHES, KATHY
