To Ken Jakalski,

I would like to make a correction in your email regarding the sprint chute. You

state that the sprint chute was the " brainchild of former Soviet sprint

authority Ben Tabachnik, . . . who is still considered the Arthur Lydiard of the

sprint world. " In Russian circles he is not considered the authority on sprint.

More specifically, the sprint chute was not his brainchild, it was invented by

Ivanov at the National Scientific Research Institute of Physical Culture. Ben

Tabachnik was one of the researchers, along with Victor Breizer and Ivanov.

It is also important to understand that the chute can be used in different ways,

not merely for resistance. If you want to check the original source see Soviet

Sports Review pages 162-163 " Running With A Parachute " by V. Breizer, B.

Tabachnik, V. Ivanov.
