Guest guest
Hey everyone, Thanks for the well wishes and prayers. Lorna is recovering. During her surgery they found part of the small intestine had twisted and had caused the blockage. After the surgeon got everything free and untwisted it pinked right back up. He felt everything was viable so he didn't do any resection of the bowel. He felt had we waited a couple more hours it could have cost Lorna some bowel as he would have had to removed the dead tissue. Lorna is resting and they expect her to be in the hospital 4-5 days if she doesn't have any set backs. The ER I took her to wanted to just use the standard methods to try and clear it, which of course don't work with us DS'ers. So I showed them the card we all carry, OR SHOULD CARRY, and bitched at them until they called Dr. K. After talking with him they transfered her to Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls, SD and as luck would have it the on-call surgeon was a Bariatric surgeon. He doesn't do the DS but at least when I talked with him before Lorna's surgery he understood that he was not working on a gastric bypass pateint. Afterwords he said that durring the surgery he examined everything and he said he was very impressed with the work Dr. K did. Any way, we are all hoping that she will be back home soon as I and the kids miss her here very much. Makes a person think, I don't know what I would have done if I had lost her to this. Someone was watching over her. Randy > > > > Hey everyone, > > I took my wife Lorna to the hospital tonight with severe abdominal pain. They did some tests and felt she had a bowel obstruction. I made them call Dr. K because they kept telling me about other gastric bypass patients and I kept telling them this is not the same. Sounded like Dr. K set them straight. Well they transferred her to a larger hospital and we'll see what tomorrow brings I guess. Funny thing is that she took me to a oral surgeon this morning to have a tooth cut out, so not a good start to the weekend. > > > > Please keep Lorna in your prayers. > > > > Randy Donahue > ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ > Randy, > How is Lorna doing??? Guest guest
Well I have to update this now because we spoke to soon. Lorna had that bowel obstruction repaired last Saturday the 22nd, and went home on the 26th. Well on the 28th we were back at the hospital with abdominal pain again. So they admitted her and thought that it might resolve itself but things did not improve. So today they went in again and did a revision on the anastomosis where the biliopancreatic loop and common channel meet. Why they did run the whole bowel the first time they were in there I don't know, but oh well at least we have that fixed now. So know she has a central line for IV nutrition. So we hope this will fix the problem now. Dr. K has been keeping in touch with me too on this which has been reassuring too. the only better than being in touch with him would have been him doing the surgery. Look forward now to our annual follow up this summer. Randy Donahue > > > > > > > > Hey everyone, > > > > I took my wife Lorna to the hospital tonight with severe abdominal pain. Guest guest
Randy Thanks for keeping us updated on Lorna. A revision on the anastomosis?? What was wrong with it?? From what you said, I take it was a problem that she had when she had surgery on the 22nd and it wasn't caught? Did they alter the length of her Common Channel? Hopefully now the only thing she has to do is heal! Hugs JO > > > > > > > > > > Hey everyone, > > > > > I took my wife Lorna to the hospital tonight with severe abdominal pain.
