Guest guest
Hallo dynaman, I have been experimenting with dosages. First I started with 4.5 mg (in august), which was great. But after some months I got stiffness, so I tried 3.0 mg but the stiffness remained the same and the m.s. got worse. In may I took 4.5 mg again and yes: that is a much better dosage for me. Every (m.s.-)person is different, so I think you have to see for yourself. Guest guest
Thank you Simon. I suppose, whether it's for Parkinsons or MS, that experimenting with dosage is wise. Problem is, early PD is subtle and it's hard to tell what's happening. Any thoughts from other PD patients on experimenting with dosage on the theory that 3.0 might promote a stronger endorphin rush since it blocks endorphins for a shorter time than does 4.5mg? Thanks! > Hallo dynaman, > > I have been experimenting with dosages. > First I started with 4.5 mg (in august), which > was great. Guest guest
Simon, All, I just started on my 1.5mg doseage so I just can not say right now but in around 3 weeks I will be on to my 3.0mg tests. I'm keeping track of just what is happening to my MSA week by week. Nothing to report yet execpt that I am having NO PROBLEM GETING TO SLEEP AT NIGHT, but as of right now that is all there is to report RK [low dose naltrexone] EXPERIMENTING WITH DOSAGE?> >Date: Tue, 05 Jul 2005 15:18:27 -0000> >> >I've heard that the 3mg dose actually might be stronger than 4.5mg, the> >theory being that 3mg blocks endorphins for a shorter time, resulting> >in a different and perhaps stronger endorphin rush. Guest guest
Hi Dynaman, when it comes to Parkinson's, some researchers believe the disease is a brain inflammation. They have found that the administration of naloxone (=naltrexone) in very small amounts can be neuroprotective in rats and should represent an effective treatment for people. They are not so sure endorphins are the reason for the good results. Unfortunately, they haven't come up with the correct dosage for us yet so we only have Dr. Bihari's experience to go by. I myself don't think 3.0 or 4.5 mg is a big difference but I would go with 4.5 mg. And, I agree that PD is such a slow mover, it's very hard to determine what LDN is doing but it's worth the try for as long as it takes. See attachment for PD http://www.fasebj.org/cgi/content/full/19/6/550 for MS http://jnnp.bmjjournals.com/cgi/content/full/74/4/495 > > Hallo dynaman, > > > > I have been experimenting with dosages. > > First I started with 4.5 mg (in august), which > > was great. Guest guest
In a majority of cases men do best with 3.0 and women do best with 4.5. It does not appear to be a body weight or mass thing. I have heard that someone was thinking along the lines of different hormones. But maybe the idea of 3mg blocking endorphins for a shorter time and resulting in a stronger endorphin rush might be plausible. Who knows! Guest guest
Hi , Could you clarify with Dr. Gluck: 1. Does he mean that 4.5 give a stronger response than 3.0 in stopping PD progression, and therefore the idea that 3.0 give a stronger endorphin rush is incorrect? 2. Does Dr. Bihari or anyone else believe, to any reasonable degree of assurance, that PD is caused by brain inflammation (perhaps causing the loss of dopamine receptor cells?), and that 4.5 give a better anti-inflammatory response than 3.0? (By the way, Dr. Bihari was hospitalized during the LDN conference in June. Anyone know how he's doing?) 3. Another person responded to my dosage question with (paraphrasing): " a majority of men do best with 3.0 and women do best with 4.5, based more on different hormones than weight or mass. " But my doc prescribed 4.5 based on my body weight of 165#. The BASIC QUESTION: In males with early PD (and later stages as well), does experience show that 3.0mg or 4.5mg LDN produces a better result in slowing and stopping disease progression? Should female PD patients take 4.5? Or doesn the difference between 3.0 and 4.5 not matter much in terms of sex, and it's more about individual experimentation? Thanks for your help! > > I've heard that the 3mg dose actually might be stronger than 4.5mg, the > > theory being that 3mg blocks endorphins for a shorter time, resulting > > in a different and perhaps stronger endorphin rush. Guest guest
Hi again Dynaman, You might try emailing Dr. Gluck yourself. His email add. is on the LDN website. As a PD'er on LDN for 1 year, I would like to ask him how Dr. Bihari' origional, year 2000, PD patients mentioned in their LDN website (autoimmune Parkinson's) are doing now. PD can progress at such a slow rate I would think that a PD'er would have to be on LDN for years before one can say LDN " works " . As far as PD being caused by " brain inflammation " , that's the belief of certain researchers such as Dr. Liu and Dr. Hong whose papers I've attached previously on this site. And will do so again. They are very technical but if you print them out and take the time to read them, you can get the gist of them and believe/hope that there is something to LDN. I actually emailed Dr. Hong (see his article for his email add.) at the NIH and he said he would recommend LDN (although he doesn't know the doseage) for someone with PD. Dr. Bihari recommends 4.5mg for almost everyone. Drs. Hong and Liu have found that a small dose of naloxone (naltrexone) within a certain optimum range reduces brain inflamation in rats and they believe it can be an effective therapy for PD. I would guess that there are very few people with PD on LDN and that it's important as " pioneers " that we can somehow keep tabs on how we are doing. The various Parkison's websites do not seem much interested in LDN. http://www.fasebj.org/cgi/content/full/19/6/550 http://jpet.aspetjournals.org/cgi/content/full/304/1/1 > > > I've heard that the 3mg dose actually might be stronger than > 4.5mg, the > > > theory being that 3mg blocks endorphins for a shorter time, > resulting > > > in a different and perhaps stronger endorphin rush.
