Hi Everyone

This group has been so helpful to me. I have learned so much from all

of you. My mother was diagnosed with ol Lewy about 5 months ago. When

I first learned about it I jumped in full guns. I found you all! I

called The Mayo Clinic in Az.(because her nuro went to a seminar and

thats how she finally figured out that it must be LBD) and so I got

Mom on the waiting list so that she can be seen by the doctors at

Mayo. I figured if they were having the seminar I was sure that there

must be someone or something there that would be able to help her.

Her insurance doesn't cover this so we will have to put up a deposit

at the time of the appt. Which was fine with me...

I have flown in monthly (I work in Mexico) to go to Doctor's

(nurologist)and other appts. (Hers and His)To just help out.. Just

generally give my parents a break from each other. (Dad is the

caregiver and not in good health now himself). We got all the estate

things and POA's in order (thanks to the information from this group).

Mom is only taking her sinemet 3xday. Aricep and Serequel caused more

problems. She has bouts of severe confusion and is still

hallucinating w/ the kids and a few new adults have joined in her

hallucinations. Runny nose..etc. She is non aggressive and seems to

do better when there is someone interacting with her however that is

only for the 5- 7 days that I am there as my Dad is not willing to

have help in the house and Mom does not want as she says

a " Babysitter " (like her friend across the street). When I am there we

do play yahtzee and we take walks and laugh alot...Then we cry...

Okay here is where I am having the dilema... The Mayo Clinic finally

called and they have now given a date for an app. which will be late

December.

Is there anything that they can really do different that will help???

Has anybody dealt with the Mayo Clinic regarding the treatment of you

LO?

Are we just as well seeing the Dr. that is familiar with my Mom...

Is there anything new out there!

Sorry to ramble on... but thanks so much for being there!!!

Hugs

Well - you are lucky that your regular doctor is a neurologist!!! Even so,

I would say go to the Mayo Clinic. No matter what, a second opinion -

especially from someone who works for such a reputable healthcare group -

couldn't hurt.

That, of course, is just my one-half cent's worth!

Sherry,

The Mayo Clinics are involved in LBD research and have some of the

best dementia dignostic centers. It sound well worth your time to

keep the appointment, if nothing else, to get a second opinion on the

diagnosis and medicine regime.
