Guest guest
Hello to everyone. It has been quite some time since I have posted. Little refresher -- my Grandma (Gram) has been in the nursing home for 7 1/2 months. It isn't the greatest place and basically we have been making a nusiance of ourselves there to get Gram the quality of care we know she deserves. When she was first admitted and at every care meeting since, I have presented them with Lewy Body information and discussed with them ways to help Gram. It has gone in one ear and out the other. Well, yesterday when I was there, the head of the social work person told me she had just gotten back from some big conference on Alzheimer's Disease. Apparently the speaker also talked about Lewy Body. She says to me -- " You're right, you're right. She does have Lewy Body Disease! " I just wanted to scream, " DUH! " -- but I didn't. I just said, " Yes, tell me what you learned. " So, I think we may be on the cusp of a break through with the nursing home people. At least, I am hoping. Meanwhile, Gram spends most of her days taking care of her 9 babies (dolls & stuffed animals), talking with 'the cousin' who lives in the floor length mirror behind her door and talking with the big family picture -- she doesn't remember that it is all of us, just some nice people who live with her. She still laughs with me, calls me 'sister' -- it is a term of indearment rather than a title. She has had some bouts with cellulitis. She is still eating good and we always each have a miniature snickers when I visit. I " hide them away " for her. Periodically, I will get her to talk about things that happened years and years ago -- then there are some times that I can't make heads or tails of what she is saying. Sometimes I see a little flicker of my real grandmother there, but most of the time....it is just a sweet, confused little old woman who just looks like my Gram. Peace to you all, Wolfie
Guest guest
Hi Wolfie, I am so happy that you stuck to your guns and were always making the NH staff aware of LBD. Now that they have heard it from another source, you will probably get more attention payed to what you say about your Gram's care. Too bad they don't listen to a Loved One's family when presented with the LBD stuff. My sister and I are doing the same as you, keep bringing material and keep reminding them that mum has LBD. Sounds like your Gram is doing ok too. All the best to you and your Gram. .
