Maybe somebody can help:  I have spent more time in the past 2 weeks on computer/network troublshooting than  medicine, it seems, all last weekend.  Problem is, several times/ day,  the error box pops saying " Sorry, Internet explorer must close.... " and I am disonnected from the internet.  Only thing I can do is recycle the router and it comes back up,  but that means it wont stay online for remote access, on which I depend.  I have talked to ISP carrier COX, cable modem tech (Zoom),  DLink router, and gone through the Microsoft self dx facility.  NOthing has helped.  When it is working ,  all is fine,  but it just wont stay online.   

    Any suggestions?  Thanks in advance.  Ron

Your scenario is not very clear to me.

Are you at home when this happens?

just dropping the internet connection should not cause IE to produce

that message which indicates a crash - so try Firefox as well.

Recycling the router indicates that it is more likely to be an

intermittently faulty router. Have you flash upgraded it to the

latest firmware?

Or, tried another router ..?

I had that problem with a router before, I had to reflash the

firmware to make it disappear, it was a DLinks unit and eventually had to get

rid of it.

Grahm, I havent used Firefox but could download and try it.  I havent tried another

router but D Link has suggested (yeseterday email) that I reset the router and set up

the network anew.   I will try those things,  thanks, Ron

Your scenario is not very clear to me.Are you at home when this happens?just dropping the internet connection should not cause IE to producethat message which indicates a crash - so try Firefox as well.

,  did resetting the router fix it?  When you say get rid of it, I'm not sure

whether it was the firmware or the router you got rid of.   Thanks

I had that problem with a router before, I had to reflash the firmware to make it disappear, it was a DLinks unit and eventually had to get rid of it.

I actually did a HARD RESET and reloaded the latest firmware and

it worked for a while, had to disengage the Turbo G feature.  It worked for a

while but it started over again and I just went and got a N capable router, no

problems so far.  By the way I only had problems with my Windows based

computer, the Macs did not mind at all.

Ron,

Laptops on my network displayed the same message for the past month, then the whole network lost internet connectivity. I contacted Qwest who advised the DSL line was working and after over some phone diagnostics recommended a new modem/router, which has fixed the problem. Hope that helps. Gallanis jgallanis@...

You may have to roll back to IE7, I had a similar problem with IE8, had to uninstall and re-download several times to make it work again, what version and OS are you using?Have you installed any new programs or updated Windows just before the problem started?

Consider starting in " Safe Mode " and see if the problem persists, another option would be to disable all of your start-up programs to see if the problem persists and then start one by one the programs that you need?

Is your system still under warranty? Can you call Tech support?Pedro Ballester, M.D.Warren, OH

Thanks,  .  I have about concluded that also,  either  cable modem or router are failing

intermittently or transiently.  I will try replacement:  beats all the time I am wasting trying

to trouble shoot.
