Guest guest
Just have to share this story with you. Last Saturday my husband, Jim, was in one of his confused states and he was adamant about going for a ride. It was early morning and I still wasn't dressed for the day and I was in the bathroom getting washed up when I heard " HELP!. " Jim had pushed his way up to the front door in his transport chair, opened the front door and pulled himself up out of the chair by holding onto the door frame and had the front wheels of his transport chair over the door step and he was hanging on for dear life. I got him back into his chair and away from the door and double bolted it, because he can't figure out how to open the top lock, it needs a key to unlock it from the inside. I continued to attempt to get myself ready, so that I could take him for a ride, but he was screaming and pulling and twisting the door knob and he couldn't get out and he was shouting, " HELP, MY WIFE HAS PENNED ME IN, SOMEBODY HELP! " He repeated this over and over shouting the loudest that he could. Thank goodness we live far enough between houses that he wasn't heard. I told him we would leave as soon as I could get ready and I told him it was time for his pills. He needed to take the Seroquel to calm down before I would take him for a ride, but he refused his pills and threw them on the floor and I tried to get it in his mouth, but he was refusing to take it and said I was trying to poison him. He said, " I never knew you were like this. I can't believe that you could do something like this. " He tried to dial the phone for help, but just dialed numbers at random and was frustrated, so I told him l would dial for him, but he didn't trust me. He wanted to call his Day Program and complain to a staff member that he has bonded to, I told him it's Saturday and no one is there, but he insisted, so I dialed the number and only a recording answered and he said, " See, I told you they are there " He told the recording that he wanted to speak to , but he got no response and never came to the phone, so he gave up. I told him we will go for a ride when you take your pills, but he insisted that I was trying to poison him, so he wouldn't take them. I told him I would drive him to the Day Program if he took his pills and so finally he agreed to take them and I let them absorb into his body for awhile and then he was calm enough to go out the door and we drove to the Day Program and not a car was in the parking lot and he looked at me and said, " You are right, no one is here, it must be Saturday. " The rest of the day was ok after all this was settled and he totally forgot about it all after a few hours. On Monday, when I picked Jim up from his Day Program, I told about our day on Saturday and that he wanted to talk to her and she said, that he had told her that he came to see her, but she and the children weren't there when he came. said that she was trying to figure out what he had meant. You've gotta see humor in it somedays or you'll tear hair! Hugs to you all, Jan __________________________________________________
