Guest guest
Vicki, I know they say it is a no-no, and I know why, but there are times when I simply have to have a little bit of a diet soda with my meal. I don't drink a lot, but I do it anyway. I am only talking about like once a month or so. It is like eating dessert, I don't do it everyday, but when I want it, I eat it. I don't eat the real fattening stuff, but a little I feel is going to keep me from going overboard. Of course I am also 3 1/2 years out. Newbies I would encourage not to drink it, for various reasons. Pearl **************Get trade secrets for amazing burgers. Watch " Cooking with Tyler Florence " on AOL Food. Guest guest
Hi Vicky, A couple of weeks ago I posted the same sort of question about whether we could get away with " cheating " once in awhile on the diet soda rule. Dee was obviously monitoring the board at the time and she busted me so quick it made my head spin! Her response was: NO CHEATING! Diet sodas have lots of bad effects and are bad for us in many different ways, not the least of which is by leading to weight gain! Did you ever hear Dr. K tell the story of the DSer who had her stomach completely flip over because it was full of carbonated bubbles? Pretty scary. Giving up my diet Coke was the absolute hardest part of the DS surgery for me, but I've done it and, after Dee cracked my knuckles for me (LOL) I won't be tempted by it again. Try Diet Snapple. No bubbles, but it is really good tasting (I get the cranberry/raspberry flavor) and it helps get you over the " I gotta' have a diet Coke! " syndrome. Good luck! Guest guest
Pearl, That's completely understandable. Everyone has to make decisions for yourself and you know that your few sips of diet soda every now and then stop you from chugging a few cans because you haven't it in eons! There's no need to apologize or explain! Yes, as newbies, people should be more diligent, because it's one thing to do something of the things we do (every once in a while, I'll have dessert before dinner if it's really good, etc!), but when you have limited stomach room as a newbie and you don't want carbonation to stretch out your stomach prematurely, it's important to know how far out people are that are doing it. I also think when someone is a few weeks out or a few months out and they're a little frustrated because they're used to eating or enjoying what they want and they only have room for protein, that they know that they do get to the point where they can eat dessert or maybe drink a little diet soda in moderation, etc. Would their weight loss be more optimized if they didn't?? Sure, but sometimes its about quality of life and enjoying it, rather than 'maximizing your weight loss', etc. Having weight loss surgery doesn't mean you have to stop enjoying food, it just means you try to eat your protein first, you get to eat in moderation and the healthier you are at it, the better your weight loss will be and any potential weight regain will be minimized! -Anita in San 11/08/01 Dr K 327lbs -> 177lbs Size 28-> Size 14 > > Vicki, I know they say it is a no-no, and I know why, but there are times > when I simply have to have a little bit of a diet soda with my meal. Guest guest
Well if all of this didnt take the cravings away, nothing would....lol. I am almost 5 years out so definitely not a newbie. I am taking the advice and will not consume ANY. It is not worth it. Thank you for your responses. You too, Dee. I love seeing your responses to things like this. It is so very helpful. Guest guest
Vicki, Every once in awhile, about every 3 months, I get a total craving for a diet coke. I don't usually drink soda, juice, or even ice tea. I mostly drink water and I am 4 years out. I didn't touch diet soda at all in the first year. But now, when I get this intense craving, I grab a diet coke and guzzle it down. I don't know exactly what I am craving but one soda usually does the trick, atleast for another 3 months -- **Wake me up from the nothing that I've become** -------------- Original message -------------- Well if all of this didnt take the cravings away, nothing would....lol. Guest guest
, That's usually how I feel about Mc's and most fast food places! I don't eat it most of the time, but every once in a while, I'm in the mood for KFC or a fast food cheeseburger and fries, so I eat it and then I'm good for several months!
