Guest guest
, Does your blood sugar really go down when you eat certain foods? I notice that they don't go up as much with certain things but nothing makes them go down! That is great news about the possibility that the meds may be causing some of the blood sugar problems. I think it is wonderful that you are jumping on this right away and doing your part. I wish I had been so dilligent a few years ago! My current struggle is that I am vegitarian.(Mostly)So I am trying to stay away from meat, reduce animal protien (so no whey protein shakes)and only eat complex carbs. I have tried to go back to eating meat several times in the last few weeks and got grossed out by the food.Which is extreamly wierd cause I only stopped eating meat to see if I would feel better.(Which I do)But I don't think I am getting enough protein, even with all the soy etc I am eating. I was nauseated all day yesterday until I ate a small cup of chili (non- vegitarian). I have felt better since. I am wondering if the lack of protein can make you nauseated? Sorry...I got way OT. C > > Hi Dani, > > I ate my ezekial toast with 2 eggs today. When I got back from the doctor, my blood sugar was 97. This is awesome. I asked the doctor why the protein shake raised my blood sugar since it only had 2 grams of sugar in it and about 30 grams of protein. I thought protein lowered sugar. He said that it isn't the protein but the fiber that helps to lower blood sugar. My ezekial bread has fiber. But, I think it is the combo of the bread and the protein. When I eat the bread with just a little peanut butter, it does not go down as much. > > > > --
Guest guest
, I am not sure about the sugar level going down. I know that when I eat certain foods or exercise that the glucose level is much better. I just mean, if I eat ezekial toast with eggs and then test my blood sugar two hours later it is around 130 or so, but if I eat a bowel of cheerios and test my blood sugar, it is close to 300. I am experimenting to see what meals are good for the sugar level and which are not. I tested the protein shake again last night. I ate protein with it (split pea soup with cheese). Then, I tested. It was 236. If I had just had the protein shake it would have been around 300. The spikes in blood sugar scare me. I don't want to get ketoacidosis again. The doc told me yesterday to only test my blood sugar in the morning. He said that the fasting glucose should be under 130. The diabetic association says under 120 but he wants it under 130. He said not to worry about testing at other times. I don't really agree though. Atleast not for now. I want to see what foods are good for me and which are not. After that, I will only test in the morning. Yesterday it was 126. Today it was 111. So, for now cereal and protein drinks are out, lol. Darn, they both are so good. The doc also said that fiber is the key to keeping the sugar levels under control. New news to me. But good news, cause I need to figure out good fiber foods to eat. I love eating campbells split pea soup with added cheese. It has protein and 12 grams of fiber. I make it with unsweetened soy milk. I am not sure if not enough protein causes nausea. I do know though that not eating enough causes me nausea. It's hard to find the right foods to eat for this surgery, diabetes, and being vegetarian. I am finding it harder now just with the diabetes. If I was vegetarian, I would starve, lol. Take care. -- **Wake me up from the nothing that I've become** -------------- Original message -------------- , Does your blood sugar really go down when you eat certain foods? Guest guest
It is actually a lot easier than I thought. I would have NEVER suspected that I would not be able (or wanting) to go back to meat. I can still sneak in small amounts mixed with other foods, like the chili, but not eating it plain or large amounts in a sandwich or something. The other surprise is that I am not eating more simple carbs (like white bread or pasta). I am eating a lot more vegitables and whole grains. But still...my blood sugars aren't content. *lol* My morning numbers run between 160-210 right now. :0( C > >... Guest guest
, You have to remember that my diabetes just came back a few months ago. So, I am like an early onset of diabetes. This is why I want to try and manage it so I don't have blood sugars like I used to in a few years. My blood sugars always ran around 250. So, I completely understand the frustration. Do you crave sugar? After the DS, I no longer crave sugar. I mentally want it but I don't physically crave it. -- **Wake me up from the nothing that I've become** -------------- Original message -------------- It is actually a lot easier than I thought. Guest guest
I am wondering if the lack of > protein can make you nauseated? =========================== : YES...100%....being low on protein will cause you to be nauseated. You are NOT getting in enough protein. If you are going to follow your current eating plan you NEED to be doing no fewer than 3 protein drinks a day. PLUS eating all the tofu/veggie protein you can get in. Be Diligent. NO EXCUSES or you WILL GET sick, siCK, SICK! Hugs Jo

Guest guest
Ok, so I didn't check the board all weekend. Sorry this reply is so late! The nausea is worse. Now I get " grossed out " by whatever I am eating about 1/4-1/2 of what I normally eat. I am mildly nauseated the rest of the time. I did try a couple of protein shakes but that doesn't seem to make me feel any better. My Dr has been increasing my Metphormin but that didn't cause nausea when I first started taking it and the last increase was about two weeks ago. I sent a message to my PCP but since I don't have any pain or other symptoms, I am sure they will just say to keep an eye on it. *ugh* C > > I am wondering if the lack of > > protein can make you nauseated? > =========================== > > : > > YES...100%....being low on protein will cause you to be nauseated.
