I don't think this site should be used to promote hateful language, even if you think that it is for a good cause (ie: raising money for your child). This support group is to be used for parents to ask each other opinions and share their personal experiences, but not at the risk of starting another inflammatory debate on this topic. Please, we all know that the topic of vaccines is polarizing, so I don't think a parent should start another war on this topic by selling bumper stickers on this forum. Also people should be careful about quoting this Dr Mercola. If you google his name, or search wikipedia,

you will find a lot of warnings about his "medical claims". Also note that the medical license posted on his website does not post a expiration date, which is very troubling, since we know that medical licenses need to be renewed every 2-3 years and it appears that this physician does not appear to want people to know when his license actually expired.Below is an excerpt from wikipedia:Mercola has been the subject of much criticism from the business and medical community. The profit ($1) goes into a fund for my daughters Stem Cell Transplant(Goal Amount $17,000 to pay for the transplant & related expenses.)

We have already did 1 transplant in 2009 with incredible results. Unfortunately, we cannot afford to do it again on our own. I am determined to make it where she can have another one since it helped her so much.

I also sell clothing online.

I posted this bumper sticker in all the autism groups because I believe we are being patted on the head and set aside and that is an OUTRAGE against all our families and children.

I understand your point, but I would certainly trust Dr. Mercola over Wikipedia, which can be changed by anyone anywhere to say anything without any proof that it is true. I could go into Wikipedia and change it to say that Dr. Mercola is really Duck. I have no idea if those things are true or not. I understand your point, but I would certainly trust Dr. Mercola over Wikipedia, which can be changed by anyone anywhere to say anything without any proof that it is true. I could go into Wikipedia and change it to say that Dr. Mercola is really Duck. I have no idea if those things are true or not. Everyone has a right to their opinion. I beleive this site is supposed to help us deal with the issues with our children and to help us and our children cope with all the things that go along with supporting and raising our children. And whats helps me most of all is to know that I am not alone. The problem with the vaccine debate is that everyone has their own opinion, that they are very passionate about. The vaccine debate can go on forever, everyone has the right to have their own thoughts on this matter, but in the year or so that I have been on this message board, every time the subject is brought up is leads to alot of judging and people being bashed for what they beleive. As said before when this subject came up, our kids have it, let's just find a way to help each other and support

each other. We can't turn back the clock and make our kids not have this. Last time the moderator ended the discussion by asking everyone to just stop. I don't know-maybe he will have to do it again, before things get ugly like before.

I don't mind people sharing what they believe, but if it turns into

attacking those who think differently, I will stop the discussion. 

I am willing to accept that vaccines may have been the cause of some

cases, but definitely not all.  I don't entirely trust the 'experts'

on either side of this debate.  I am not yet persuaded that there is

one single cause for autism, or that there is one 'cure'.  My son

had no adverse reaction to vaccines, nor was he any different before

and after.  But i accept that some people had a different

experience.  We always said we would not use drugs unless it was

necessary, but now he is taken Concerta because it works and helps

him concentrate.  The last two years of high school here are very

heavy, and he needs it to concentrate enough to get through his

schoolwork and get his homework done.  We have to do what we believe

works best, and that sometimes means we have to try things we always

said we wouldn't.

I don't want to stop the discussion on any subject autism related,

but I do want the discussion to remain civil.  We all have enough

aggravation in our lives without adding to it.  I would also prefer

we kept the discussion of individuals to a minimum.  This is not the

place to discuss the ethics of individuals or groups.  Remember that

unsubstantiated statements - no matter how much we may believe they

are true - are easily labelled as libel by those who take a

different view.  This is a private group, but I believe the posts

could still be considered as 'public' given that they go to about

4,000 people, and Yahoo won't hesitate to hand over the material if

it becomes subject to a law suit.  If you believe we need to know

about material that is on the web, post the URL with a very brief

account of what it is about, and let people who are interested go

there to read it.

I don't mind people sharing what they believe, but if it turns into

attacking those who think differently, I will stop the discussion.

I am willing to accept that vaccines may have been the cause of some

cases, but definitely not all. I don't entirely trust the 'experts'

on either side of this debate. I am not yet persuaded that there is

one single cause for autism, or that there is one 'cure'. My son

had no adverse reaction to vaccines, nor was he any different before

and after. But i accept that some people had a different

experience. We always said we would not use drugs unless it was

necessary, but now he is taken Concerta because it works and helps

him concentrate. The last two years of high school here are very

heavy, and he needs it to concentrate enough to get through his

schoolwork and get his homework done. We have to do what we believe

works best, and that sometimes means we have to try things we always

said we wouldn't.

I don't want to stop the discussion on any subject autism related,

but I do want the discussion to remain civil. We all have enough

aggravation in our lives without adding to it. I would also prefer

we kept the discussion of individuals to a minimum. This is not the

place to discuss the ethics of individuals or groups. Remember that

unsubstantiated statements - no matter how much we may believe they

are true - are easily labelled as libel by those who take a

different view. This is a private group, but I believe the posts

could still be considered as 'public' given that they go to about

4,000 people, and Yahoo won't hesitate to hand over the material if

it becomes subject to a law suit. If you believe we need to know

about material that is on the web, post the URL with a very brief

account of what it is about, and let people who are interested go

there to read it.

Everyone has a right to their opinion. I beleive this

site is supposed to help us deal with the issues with

our children and to help us and our children cope with

all the things that go along with supporting and raising

our children. And whats helps me most of all is to know

that I am not alone. The problem with the vaccine debate

is that everyone has their own opinion, that they are

very passionate about. The vaccine debate can go on

forever, everyone has the right to have their own

thoughts on this matter, but in the year or so that I

have been on this message board, every time the subject

is brought up is leads to alot of judging and people

being bashed for what they beleive. As said before when

this subject came up, our kids have it, let's just find

a way to help each other and support each other. We

can't turn back the clock and make our kids not have

this. Last time the moderator ended the discussion by

asking everyone to just stop. I don't know-maybe he

will have to do it again, before things get ugly like

before.

 I believe that autism can come from birth problems or vaccines.  A small group of us believe something is defently going on with the vaccines.  Autism is becomming too common.  It is around so much, we have to ask..... WHY?

I am not sure where Autism comes from, but I do know it runs in my hubs family. We believe his Grandpa also had it, which was before vaccines were really used. In a picture of him we recently saw of him when he was young and alive, he was looking away from the camera, while his wife and daughter were looking straight at the camera. My hubs brother and two nephews also have Aspergers, as well as our youngest son. And my hubs thinks he might have Aspergers as well, though not to the extreme as our son.

I think what is most important (and what we need to focus on) is that we teach our kids Life Skills, and try to help them become as independent as possible.  We need to accept them for who they are. Some of our kids may be able to someday live independently, while others won't. As for my son, I honestly don't see him ever living completely independent, but deep down in my heart I still have hope that maybe one day he will be able too. But even if he doesn't, I still will accept him for who he is, and take care of him until the day I die, because he really is a blessing to me, and his disability has taught me so many things that otherwise I would have never learned.

I don't know what to believe about Dr. Mercola honestly. I did follow him at first, but then it was like he was saying some things that really bothered me. It was almost like he was saying everything causes cancer, or causes this or that. I think sometimes vaccines can be dangerous for some people (I know some people who have been injured by vaccines), but I don't think that 'all autism' is caused by vaccines, because it seems like it has been in my hubs family since the early 1900's before vaccines.

I will say that Wikipedia is usually pretty accurate on most things. Most people don't understand that there are strict policies that have to be followed if you write articles on Wikipedia. Writers have to show a bibliography (of reliable secondary sources) to back up what they write in their articles. My oldest son has written for Wikipedia for a year and a half, and if someone changes an article to say that... " Dr. Mercola is really Duck " , that is considered vandalism, and once it is caught, then it is removed, known on Wikipedia as reverted. They revert it back to the original article.

My son is pretty passionate when it comes to defending Wikipedia articles, so my son wanted to explain this further to you, and I quote from him: " In addition to the policy forbidding vandalism, there are also dozens of other policies that must be followed. If they are not followed, the edit made is removed and proper warnings distributed. If the user does not heed to the warnings, they are blocked. Also, claims that must be backed up with a source usually are, and if they're not, they're hastily removed. If it were Wikipedia's early days, I would believe you; however, over the decade that Wikipedia has been around, many improvements have been made that have helped the encyclopedia become more accurate. Yes, Wikipedia does have its inaccuracies; for example, whenever you see a " citation needed " template, I would not trust that claim. But if you think about it, Wikipedia's articles are backed up by sources that even critics admit are reliable. So in conclusion, while Wikipedia is inaccurate in some respects, it is more accurate than most people that are critical of it think. "

I understand your point, but I would certainly trust Dr. Mercola over Wikipedia, which can be changed by anyone anywhere to say anything without any proof that it is true. I could go into Wikipedia and change it to say that Dr. Mercola is really Duck. I have no idea if those things are true or not. They might be but I have been researching this arena for almost a decade now and in community with many individuals, professionals and parents and I trust what Dr. Mercola writes his articles on.

Also people should be careful about quoting this Dr Mercola.  If you google his name, or search wikipedia, you will find a lot of warnings about his " medical claims " .  Also note that the medical license posted on his website does not post a expiration date, which is very troubling, since we know that medical licenses need to be renewed every

2-3 years and it appears that this physician does not appear to want people to know when his license actually expired.Below is an excerpt from wikipedia:Mercola has been the subject of much criticism from the business and medical community. A 2006 BusinessWeek editorial criticized Mercola's marketing practices as " relying on slick promotion, clever use of information, and scare tactics. The profit ($1) goes into a fund for my daughters Stem Cell Transplant(Goal Amount $17,000 to pay for the transplant & related expenses.)We have already did 1 transplant in 2009 with incredible results. Unfortunately, we cannot afford to do it again on our own. I am determined to make it where she can have another one since it helped her so much.

I also sell clothing online.I posted this bumper sticker in all the autism groups because I believe we are being patted on the head and set aside and that is an OUTRAGE against all our families and children.

I don't know what to believe about Dr. Mercola honestly. I did follow him at first, but then it was like he was saying some things that really bothered me. It was almost like he was saying everything causes cancer, or causes this or that. I think sometimes vaccines can be dangerous for some people (I know some people who have been injured by vaccines), but I don't think that 'all autism' is caused by vaccines, because it seems like it has been in my hubs family since the early 1900's before vaccines.

I will say that Wikipedia is usually pretty accurate on most things. Most people don't understand that there are strict policies that have to be followed if you write articles on Wikipedia. Writers have to show a bibliography (of reliable secondary sources) to back up what they write in their articles. My oldest son has written for Wikipedia for a year and a half, and if someone changes an article to say that... " Dr. Mercola is really Duck " , that is considered vandalism, and once it is caught, then it is removed, known on Wikipedia as reverted. They revert it back to the original article.

My son is pretty passionate when it comes to defending Wikipedia articles, so my son wanted to explain this further to you, and I quote from him: " In addition to the policy forbidding vandalism, there are also dozens of other policies that must be followed. If they are not followed, the edit made is removed and proper warnings distributed. If the user does not heed to the warnings, they are blocked. Also, claims that must be backed up with a source usually are, and if they're not, they're hastily removed. If it were Wikipedia's early days, I would believe you; however, over the decade that Wikipedia has been around, many improvements have been made that have helped the encyclopedia become more accurate. Yes, Wikipedia does have its inaccuracies; for example, whenever you see a " citation needed " template, I would not trust that claim. But if you think about it, Wikipedia's articles are backed up by sources that even critics admit are reliable. So in conclusion, while Wikipedia is inaccurate in some respects, it is more accurate than most people that are critical of it think. "

I understand your point, but I would certainly trust Dr. Mercola over Wikipedia, which can be changed by anyone anywhere to say anything without any proof that it is true. I could go into Wikipedia and change it to say that Dr. Mercola is really Duck. I have no idea if those things are true or not. They might be but I have been researching this arena for almost a decade now and in community with many individuals, professionals and parents and I trust what Dr. Mercola writes his articles on.

I don't think this site should be used to promote hateful language, even if you think that it is for a good cause (ie:  raising money for your child).  This support group is to be used for parents to ask each other opinions and share their personal experiences, but not at the risk of starting another inflammatory debate on this topic.  Please, we all know that the topic of vaccines is polarizing, so I don't think a parent should start another war on this topic by selling bumper stickers on this forum. 

Also people should be careful about quoting this Dr Mercola.  If you google his name, or search wikipedia, you will find a lot of warnings about his " medical claims " .  Also note that the medical license posted on his website does not post a expiration date, which is very troubling, since we know that medical licenses need to be renewed every

2-3 years and it appears that this physician does not appear to want people to know when his license actually expired.Below is an excerpt from wikipedia:Mercola has been the subject of much criticism from the business and medical community. A 2006 BusinessWeek editorial criticized Mercola's marketing practices as " relying on slick promotion, clever use of information, and scare tactics. The profit ($1) goes into a fund for my daughters Stem Cell Transplant(Goal Amount $17,000 to pay for the transplant & related expenses.)We have already did 1 transplant in 2009 with incredible results. Unfortunately, we cannot afford to do it again on our own. I am determined to make it where she can have another one since it helped her so much.

I also sell clothing online.I posted this bumper sticker in all the autism groups because I believe we are being patted on the head and set aside and that is an OUTRAGE against all our families and children.

Even professionals are known to consult Wikipedia these days.  Most

articles - especially those on technical subjects - are written by

people who do know what they are talking about.  It is a good place

to find references on subjects you know little about.  No academic

would use Wikipedia as their main source of information, but it

isn't a bad place to start.

I would prefer we not get into a long discussion of any individual. 

I would encourage everyone to do a little research for themselves. 

My mother is a great believer in conspiracy theories, and in

chemicals being responsible for all the woes of the world (apart

from those caused by left-wing politicians - who re to blame for the

over-use of chemicals, apparently).  Perhaps because I have heard it

so much, I tend to be skeptical of claims that one thing is the sole

cause of anything.
