Guest guest
Hello my friends, I just joined this site today. I am in need of some advice and encouragement that everything will be OK. I feel very overwhelmed at this moment. Let me tell you a little bit about myself. I live in Berks County, PA. I am a wife of a great husband that is permanently disabled due to a traumatic brain injury from an auto accident, person had no insurance. I have 4 lovely children ages 6, 4, 2, and 4 months. I have a 2 yr old that stopped breathing at age 1 month old and currently recieves therapies 3 times a week. Now, the reason that I am at this group is for my little baby, Kiara that smiles at everyone. She is the most joyous child. She was born on May 7, 2008. After a very rough pregnancy, she was finally in my arms. I suffered at the end of labor with low blood pressure, had a vaginal delivery. The day after birth, I noticed that her chin was slanted. At that time, I told our doctor and she stated that it is probably from the way of positioning during pregnancy. We also noticed that one eye was smaller then the other. She had a clogged tear duct so we did not think anything of it. At the 2 month check up, we made the doctor aware that Kiara seems to turn to one side and her back looked crooked. She was diagnosed with Torticolis and referred to early intervention to recieve physical therapy. Kiara was not evaluated until August 27 by a PT. During the evaluation that she was showing the signs of scoliosis. I called the doctor immediately and was seen the following day. The primary care physician referred her to see the orthopedic, Dr. Berger at the VSAS Orthopedic in town. On Sept. 4, she was seen by him and was told to make an appointment to reevaluate her in 6 months. He stated to me that she seems to have one side of her face smaller than the other. He did not order xrays. On September 24, I was scheduled to get a second oppinion from Easter Seals Dr. Pizzitillo but he had to reschedule due to conflict in his schedule. My daughter was on the prayer chain and I was told by a fellow church member that I should contact Shriners Hospital to try to get some advice and care. I contacted them and have an appt. next Tuesday Sept. 30 to see Dr. Betz. I am eager to meet him and see what he has to say. I strongly feel that we should have an xray to determine the degree of scoliosis. The primary care physician feels that the curve in her back could be from the torticolis and will resolve on its own. As a mother, I do not want to sit and wait 6 months. I feel that this is the time that she needs care. Early detection is best. She was seen by her primary care physician today for a 4 month check up. The doctor told me that they want to refer Kiara to a neurologist due to the facial issues and the lack of moving one arm. The doctor felt that Kiara could have possibly had a stroke during the pregnancy. Again, I have an appt. on Sept. 30 at Shriners Hospital for an evaluation. Many of you have been through this before, I will take any advice, comments, concerns. I want all of you to be open with me and tell me how it is. Is there anything special I should ask or say at this evaluation? I need all of you right now as I want to do what is best for Kiara. I forgot to mention that she is recieving PT 2x a week from early intervention for the past 2 weeks now. I strongly feel that she should have a cast to prevent further curvature. Do they cast at this young of age? God bless each and every one of you that has taken the time to read this. I hope to hear from you soon. With sincere love, Brigitte
