I generally don't talk much, I do alot of reading and just watching the different feedbacks that come with the questions being asked, and I've seen replies to this question but nothing has seemed to work so far for my daughter. She is 6, almost 7(this month. When did she get so big?)The biggest frustration we have is her sensory issues. (Diagnosed as sensory integration disorder.) I don't know how common this is with children on the ASD spectrum, but heres what she does. She CHEWS on everything. Generally her fingers, toes and now her heel. Additionally, of a different nature but still sensory related, she has ah... discovered herself. And has become obsessive about it, doing it in the car when we go places, on the couch watching a movie. I feel that if we can stimulate her sensory need elsewhere, it might help over all, but so far nothing seems to stick. I don't think that when she chews, its a need to bite, but rather a need to feel, because of her disorder. Has anyone else run across similar issues, and how did you redirect?I've found that with Elora, only short-term consequences work(taking away an object of continual focus, she has several items she carries with her 24/7), and often when she's stopped from biting and otherwise, she throws a fit , throwing herself on the ground or throwing things at usually me, since I am the object of her frustration at that point. Or else she just stops until i turn away, then goes back to it.Any suggestions would help a lot please! (also note that as she was growing, she used to take things and roll them into cylinders with her fingers. The tags of plastic shopping bags, receipts, tape). That seems to have stopped, but has been replaced by the biting and .. otherwise. What would a good redirect be for this?? -Nina Houston
