Guest guest
Hi, well I guess you would have to be keeping up with all the posts for the last few days to understand where this post fits in. Sometimes I just read them all to see if they make sense. But I keep a journal and sometimes read the whole thing from the beginning to see if my life makes sense...just me..have years of them. So to answer your question; I have said plenty about how this subject has helped me with my loved one, in fact wrote one short paragraph below about how it has helped me, the third one. Seems to me that in a large group like this you are going to get a lot of different views on a lot of different things. I personally cannot stand that one about the gut, something in the gut, poison or something causing autism, da, da, da. But I have never screamed at this person or anybody else and tried to restrict them sharing what they feel will help, and actually I do even still read these things about the gut, and sometimes I even think for a minute; Hay maybe I have neglected to care about my son's gut, maybe THAT is his problem! But it is too late for us, he is 46 now and I don't have the energy, besides he's on a food tube. Peace! Guest guest
Carolyn,It's not that we don't want you here. For me (I can only speak for me) it's that all your posts contain religion. It's not a little here and a little there, but it's EVERY post....or 99% of them. You may also be weaving in the autism bit, but it detracts from the autism. I know when you start to ramble about religion I think in my head, "Here she goes again." and it seems like you cannot help yourself. It's ok to be who you are consumed in your faith, but the post should be 99% about children in general or children with autism IMO. Guest guest
You know, it's the whole "we vs them" attitude that causes these problems. And Christ did not tell anyone to shout anything from the rooftop. He did specifically state being rewarded for good deeds in this life means not in the next, because you've already had your reward. It's the quiet, secret good-deed-doers who will be rewarded. Can we please just stick to parenting and helping our children with ASD and leave both religion (regardless of denomination) and politics out of it? I am heartily sick to death of both subjects. It has NOTHING to do with being embarassed about my religion. It has everything to do with being sensitive to other peoples feelings, having common decency, respect and good manners. It's rude to insert your religious beliefs where they are not wanted, no matter who you are or what you believe. Guest guest
Haha I have had that said before! You should read my book, I write plenty about my life with autism in it. It is called; " Why Didn't Anybody Ever Tell Me About This! " A Mother's Search for a Living God...by Carolyn Mannila Harper MS. You may find it at Xulon publishing. You are so right about me, I am consumed by my faith in Jesus Christ, He consumes me, it is true! I once had a guy talk to me about money, and I said, " Well let's pray, " and he said, " D___ it! this is not about GOD it is about MOOOONEY!! " You got me pegged right! I can't help it. Guest guest
If you don't like to read about other peoples experiences just hit delete. Everyone is entitled to say what they think. We all don't have to agree but we can be respectful. The best thing to do is to hit delete if you don't agrree. Have mercy on all of us because autism is a spectrum disorder so each child has its own set of challenges so each parent or grnadparent does too. Good luck to both carolyn and shannon. Guest guest
Carolyn, you remind me so much of my mother who passed away last year at age 64. She was unashamedly Christian and I'm sure offended people all the time with her incessant references to religion. Even at her memorial service, her cousin who officiated the service had to refer to how my mom always gave her opinion, whether you wanted to hear it or not. Although we all complained and rolled our eyes and sighed and moaned when she went on one of her tangents, I'm sure she blessed many people with good wisdom throughout the years. What I wouldn't give to hear her opinionated voice again! I know you can't stop being you, and I just wanted to thank you for sharing so much experience with those of us who are only just beginning this journey. Guest guest
That was very touching Kiara. You know it is a hard thing for me to speak up as I have always been a very shy and self conscious person. Really I never spoke at all in school for years and people thought something was wrong with me. I remember the teachers talking to my mom. But then I discovered writing and when I write I have no fear and no self consciousness at all. It is like I am another person. Funny how God works. Last Sunday night at our church we heard a video by Stanley's son, Andy Stanley. We watch him on TV Sunday mornings and the admonition he gave to us was that church people to get MORE bold. He bawled us out for being stuck in our church houses and not telling anybody! To tell you the truth I do not understand why people get offended the way they do, I really don't. When I was a young mother with three little boys and all of a sudden my youngest son began to show signs of autism and seizures I was desperate to find help but nobody would help me! All they wanted me to do was drug him up and then send him away to an institution. So I began my search for God and I found Him and He has helped me! When I first met Him the first thought that came to me was I was amazed that others had known about Him all along and didn't tell me about Him! Why I named my book what I did, that was the thought that came to me. Christians are not supposed to be afraid of preaching the Gospel.. Guest guest
I am not super religious, but I do have faith and beliefs. I am not sure why it is such a big deal for some of you to hear others talking a out religion. I am all for anything anyone has to offer, and keep an open mind. It does not hurt at all to have beliefs when the medical community cannot offer help to a sick child. What ever you through, I say go for it! Guest guest
The ugggh in the last message is my thought exactly. This is getting ridiculous. I really don't care how any of you found religion. The point of these posts is to provide support and advice that people can use or not use. But as I read the thread here (and I must admit, I stopped reading all of them at some point), the conversation started about discipline. That is a valid topic of discussion, because it can be trickier with kids on the spectrum. It then turned into a debate about spanking. Some of us (myself included) do not believe in spanking, which caused others on the list to use biblical quotes to validate their choice to spank their children. I'm sorry, but that's just ridiculous. I'm hear to find out what treatments, techniques, etc help our children, and I want it validated with real world reasoning, not religious. As the moderator said, no one wants to limit what people can say, but let's be reasonable. So Carolyn wants to be more bold. Great we got it, and we know where you're coming from. But let's move on from all of this silliness. The moderator was right that interpreting the Bible is tricky, particularly since different translations will have slightly different meanings. Anyone that's studied Latin -- and I have -- knows that Latin is a very, very flexible language, and there is a lot of subjectiveness that can show the bias of the translator. As pointed out with his post about training as opposed to discipline. Let's please move on. Nobody's getting anything useful from any of these post anymore (including mine), so I'm not going to read anymore on this topic. Guest guest
I don't mind some bible quotes but, there is so many! I usually read all my emails. Lately I find myself skipping the ones with heavy quoting. I love this group but, I will continue to skip reading the bible quotes. I joined this group to share and learn things from other Autistic parents. I still plan to do that. From: Tara Gaudet To: "autism-aspergers " <autism-aspergers >Sent: Thursday, June 9, 2011 12:28 PMSubject: Re: Re: All this bible quotes WOW !!!!
