Guest guest
I am also lactose intolerant but ONLY to pasturized/homogenized dairy products. I get immediate cramps, diarreah and bloating. It is very painful but Raw Dairy products don't affect me at all. It's wonderful. I have yet to try Kefir. We recently had a friend visit who suffers greatly from "lactose intolerance". She saw us enjoying a glass of milk and we offered her one. She was nervous about it so I began telling her about kefir. She drank a 1/2 a glass of kefir and I could tell she was waiting for the symptoms to start. They never did. I explained to her that raw milk is not lacking in the very things that people need in order to digest and truly assimilate this wonderful (and tasty) food. Kefir, in particular is a great raw food that most people who have symptoms of what we call lactose intolerance do very well with. From what I understand, lactose intolerance is more a thing of "pasteurization and homogenization intolerance", our bodies can't effectively break down and work with the altered product and some bodies really let their owners know about it My mother was raised on a farm, drinking milk from the family cow with zero problems. She grew up and never made the connection that is was when she left the farm and began drinking "milk" from conventional sources that she began having Irritable Bowel Syndrome. A few years back, I suggested raw milk to her and she began drinking it, making kefir and yogurt. Symptoms of IBS gone! The only time she has had a reoccurence is when she tried to "make do" one week with regular milk cause she didn't make it to the farm. A light came on, she went to the farm, got back on the good stuff and the symptoms abated.
