Guest guest
Topics in this digest: 1. response to candidate forum questions From: "Heidi Fernandez" <hcf67@...> 24. RE: response to candidate forum questions From: "Michele Arbir" <mommachief@...> Michele, Sometimes I figure that I will not make it as an advocate or lobbyist if the criteria is that "good lobbyists never let on which candidate or party they favor." When I read your post about candidates, I didn't see any names included, unless I missed it, the candidates were anonymous. And, answers to your request for info would be posted for you and other members, not directly to the candidate. You would then be required to abide by the list serve policy of not forwarding or sharing the text posted by others unless you had their permission. I don't find any crime in getting a "sense of the people" on these issues and sharing that sense of things with the policy makers of your choosing so long as confidentiality of list serve participants is honored. Candidate forums must be fair and nonpartisan without any obvious favoritism. But forums are certainly not issue neutral. I assume that Autism-Georgia simply an e-mail list service, nothing at all like a nonprofit organization whose tax status requires an "official" proclamation of non partisanship. Many nonprofits are obliquely partisan and are allowed to continue without jeopardizing their tax status so long as there is no direct financial support of parties or candidates. So even that line of non partisanship is smudged. In my opinion, Heidi's comments were valid for candidate forums and activities of advocacy organizations and non profits but not for list serve exchanges between individuals. Meekness is untimely in this election season. The choice about list serve membership is up to you, but I think you should hang around. If anyone is interested: For a detailed account of the coercive and quid pro quo REAL WORLD relationship between US House Majority Leader Tom Delay and Washington Lobbyists listen to the audio interview from: (Regret that text is not available to share the highlights-no-make that low points) Fresh Air: Saturday - October 2, 2004http://freshair.npr.org/day_fa.jhtml;jsessionid=5YJU00RHRF3EZLA5AINSFFI?display=day & todayDate=09/29/2004 "Fresh Air with Terry Gross, is produced in Philadelphia by WHYY" Legalized bribery and extortion just perpetuate the concept that "power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely." I would like to suggest that you go to a qualified CI Center before you are accept this. Your hearing does seem quite good but only a qualified CI Center can tell you whether or not you are a candidate. If you need to know where to find one, contact me privately and I'll be happy to help you. I'll need to know where you live. You might also consider the BAHA if the CI Center says you don't qualify for a cochlear implant. Many CI Centers do the BAHA as well. You can read about it here. http://www.healthyhearing.com/healthyhearing/newroot/articles/arc_disp.asp?art icle_id=256 & catid=1096 Alice Thanks Alice well I forgot to mention that I have um something wrong with my inner ear on my good ear and my bad ear well its gone. I did go to the site you sent me and it all sounds good but I am sure that my doctor would have told me about if it would have worked. I live in Oklahoma. I am quite depressed over this mess of mine but I will be okay. Right now I am checking into a starkey Lexus system I have found out the FM system is not digital and I have a current digital hearing aid and I like how it takes out alot of the background noise. I apolize I am not in a really good mood at the moment so I am probably not making much sense. Thanks. Sherry

The church where I worship has own system which I " borrow " from them during the service.... the College provides me with their FM system... Most if not all HA are already equiped to be FM compatable by use of T-switch (it goes by several names). Seeing a VR counselor is a good start as someone suggested, so as Lion's Club. Good luck! Hope for the best for you :-) Lee. Thank you Lee for your words of usage of the FM system. As I have stated in a earlier statement I now use a digital hearing aid and if I go to the FM system which is analog I was today by my audie that I wouldn't be happy as the analog doesn't take out all the background noise so I am still checking into some other options. Sherry<< Sherry, I'm sorry to hear that! The only other thing I can recommend is to contact VR (or a similar agency) to see if they can purchase an FM system. I've used a Comtek FM system with direct audio input to my Oticon analog (and Oticon digital) aids and its sound quality and overall level of amplification/power output is the best you'll find compared to other FM systems on the market. (I don't mean to sound like a commercial. Sorry about that.) Although the Comtek is an excellent FM system, it's price is rather expensive. Perhaps you could consider the Lexus (sp?) FM system as an alternative. CI candidate awaiting insurance approval and surgery date

Have you talked to your ENT about whether or not you might qualify for an auditory brainstem implant (ABI)? It works similarly to a CI, but stimulates the brainstem instead of the auditory nerve.
