I would like to suggest a new direction for this topic-or a new topic-that of Theraputic Parenting. It is used with great success with RAD kids and can be applied to any child who has extreme behaviors that are based in fear. Most of our ASD kids are in a perpetual fight/flight state and live with constant anxiety. Their behaviors are extreme many times because they are based in fear. We have used this successfully with our son who never had an integrated Moro reflex. He was always in fight/flight mode. I bring this up to hopefully move things in a more positive direction and offer parents here something new that they may not know of since it is mostly found in the RAD/post-adoption community and not in the autism community. Something to look for in your kids is, do they "fist up" when

having extreme behaviors. Meaning, do their hands go into the fisted position? That would indicate extreme stress and they revert back to an infantile hand posture. If so, anything that would raise stress (like spanking even when done correctly) would just exasperate the fear state and cause the child more trauma. I would like to know if anyone else has used Therapeutic Parenting or is using the Beyond Consequences Logic and Control method by Forbes?
