Guest guest
I am not sure what is going on with my son these past few days. He has been so different. He has been doing LOTS of vocal stimming, covering his eyes occassionly, making his fingertips touch, biting his hand, and very hyper. Yesterday he had his fingers in his mouth crying. It appeared like he was trying to hurt himself with his fingernails on his tongue. He is four and doesn't have words but is very vocal. He makes lots of nosies and different pitches all the time now. This morning when he got on the bus, he stood there and started his vocal stimming till the asissiant led him to his carseat. The bus driver stared at him. The look on the bus drivers face stayed with me all day. The look of seeing something different and weird. Then the bus driver smiled at me. It was a I-feel-sorry-for-you kind of smile. Today was his second day back to school after Thanksgiving break. Here is what both days his teacher wrote: 11-26-07 Tyler seemed a little different today. He was very vocal and he whined a lot also. He was very active. We had a good day, he just was a little different. Just FYI. Then his teacher wrotethis today: 11-27-07 Tyler's behavior has been different today, he has been very hyper and noisy. He bit himself on the hand during circle time and I had to pull his hand from his teeth. He was biting so hard! He did this a couple of times. He also acted strange at breakfast, he kept trying to dump his juice in his lunch kit. He would bite his apple without picking it up! That was very different. He wasn't using his hands. He tried to eat like a puppy getting food all over his face and nose. Please someone help me figure out what is going on with my son. He hasn't acted like this since starting the GFCF diet. We started it back in September. He is on Zyme Prime chewable enzymes, Cod liver oil, SNT, Pro bio gold Probiotics, Zinc, and GSE. I was concern of it being yeast so I gave his about 7 drops yesterday. He has been off and on it for two months. The only thing new is AFP enzymes for ocassional outtings. He had some for the first time on Thanksgiving, and Sunday. He had one chewable AFP last night with dinner, but no gluten or casein with it. Are these signs of the AFP intolerance? Or a certain vitamin defiency? bacteria, yeast, virus? As you can tell I am desperate!! God I hope all the gluten and casein was broken down with the enzymes! Any thoughts, opinions, or experiences are appreciated!! Thanks, Janice

Guest guest
It could be anxiety. My son has autism (was moderate 3 on a scale of 1-4 at the age of 4 and is now HFA), OCD, anxiety, overarousal, dysgraphia, and more technical terms I can barely remember them all. When he was young he had constant freak outs and meltdowns. At the age of 5 his developmental pediatrician suggested a very very low dose of Prozac. It helped reduce his anxiety immensely. I am not a physician and have never met your son of course, but I would definitely consider this. My son has switched to Lexapro and we are very pleased with his progress. Medication will not solve his issues, though. It sounds like he would benefit from OT as well. Guest guest
Are you saying he was on a G/F diet and you took him off and tried eating gluten/casein with enzymes? Because if that is what you're saying then it sounds like he needs to go back on the G/F, C/F diet, even when giving him enzymes. Some kids need the diet restriction, they just cn't handle gluten and casein, my son is one of those kids, he can never eat a regular diet. Nagla > > 11-26-07 > Tyler seemed a little different today. Guest guest
Hi Janice, Something that crossed my mind as I read what you are doing with him regarding supplements and such...do you think that between the probiotics and GSE that possibly his body is attacking yeast and you are seeing the initial negative effects of it? I know that it's common to see negative stuff in the beginning when you are fighting off yeast. I believe that digestive enzymes also work to control yeast as well--so his yeast should be getting a double or triple whammy! Just an idea to consider... a ***New Stims!! Guest guest
Wow, could be a lot of things. You may want to do an ABC-- Antecedent/Behavior/Consequence chart--that will help you track what it could be related to. . . . think back over the last few days if he ate anything out of usual. . . . or it could be general allergies-- or it could be something is freaking him out at school and he doesn't want to go (we dealt with that in September) or it could be he's unsettled from the change of routine from Thanksgiving or it could be he's losing a tooth and freaking about that, at that age, the possibilities are quite varied. Only some real sleuthing will solve your little mystery. S. ***New Stims!! Different child, WHY??? teacher's report*** I am not sure what is going on with my son these past few days. Guest guest
a, That's an excellent thought, when we started treating yeast in my son who was riddled with candida (allergy testing showed #'s off the charts for yeast)his behavior went south for about 2 weeks. I remember his teachers commenting on his poor behavior change, and he was a terror at home. Things calmed down in a couple of weeks and he started showing improvement again. Guest guest
Sorry for such a late response in writing back! Thank you so much for all the responses!! a you make a great observation! It very well could of been a major yeast die off effect. I thought about it and the first time he had AFP enzymes with gluten since starting the diet was on Thanksgiving and I gave him NINE AFP chewables that day. I was so scared of an infraction. He has been on the GF/CF diet since mid August with Zyme Prime chewables. I went yesterday and got some activated charcoal to see if it helps. I just gave it to him two hours ago. I hope it helps! Thanks so much all of you!!! Janice
