Guest guest
Hi Stilligans, First, let me say I'm sorry for not keeping in contact with the group, but alot of crap hit the fan and I was too busy ducking!! But, I have been reading the emails, lurking at the sidelines, thinking of everyone and praying for everyone, too. Next, welcome to all the new members...sorry you had to get Still's, but glad you found a great support group!! They have been a Godsend for me!!! After over a year of trying everything I could to get the pain and inflammation in my neck/upper back under control, we finally did it. (we being me, 4 doctors, a PT, and what seemed like tons on meds ... but hey, it worked! Thank God!) Then, they wanted to operate (which I think I had already told you, but they didn't want to do it until the inflammation was under control)...anyway, I was given all the information on the procedures (a combination corpectomy and foraminotomy, inclucing pictures) and desided I don't want to do that until it is absolutely necessary (a corpectomy is very radical!! you can see them for yourself at http://www.esurgeon.com/scripts/content/treatmentoptions/neck-corpectomy.html?doctor=mellion and http://www.esurgeon.com/scripts/content/treatmentoptions/neck-foraminotomy.html?doctor=mellion) Because these would put me out of commission for far too long (in traction) and they are just plain scarey! (I'll have surgery when I am down and can't do anything ... until then, I'll live with it!) The last couple of months of getting things back under control, I did a flip-flop with my ability to tolerate all my normal meds...so had to go off them all to get them completely out of my system. (I had a toxic buildup reaction to them all and they were making me flare all over!!??!!) So, I had to figure out what to use to help me while coming off everything and to use till I could start meds again. Only, now, I don't think I am going to go back on anything unless I absolutely have to...what I've found is helping me more than my meds ever did!! I researched so many natural treatments and talked to so many natural healers/herlbalists, it isn't funny. But, I discovered something that should help anyone with an immune disorder like Still's. BUT DO NOT use them unless you get the 'go ahead' from your doc first ... and you're going to laugh when you hear what is helping me so much, it's such a simple thing ... but given that the majority of today's food is processed (unless you are growing everything you eat yourself, meat and milk included) these things are processed out and not put back in ... (any thing canned, pasturized or has preservatives added have been processed so much these have been taken out and they are very NECESSARY for correct immune system response, not to mention the benefits to cholestrol control, increased liver function, general wellbeing, mental/emotional/hormonal stability and great hair, nails and skin!!! ) Omega 3, Omega 6 and Omega 9 fatty acids, in the form of Flax, Fish and Borage oil (400 mg each in one softgel capsule) and no, they aren't gross. ;-) When I first started taking them, I had a break out of fever blisters (probably because my body hadn't had Omegas for so long, it didn't know what to do with them!)...so if you do get the 'go ahead' to try them from your doc, you might what to use L-Lysine, too, because it helps your body break the omegas down and use them (and it fights the herpes simplex virus that causes cold sores and fever blisters ... I've used it for years, for that. All I have to do it think of having a fever and I get a fever blister! LOL!). Any-who... I take 2 Rexall Flax, Fish, Borage Oil softgels - daily (1200 mg, 400 of each oil) (1 morning/evening) I also take 2 Spring Valley triple strength Glucosamine/Chondroitin - daily (750mg/600mg) (1 morning/evening) 2 Spring Valley L-Lysine 500mg (1 morning/evening) 2 Rexall Green Tea Energizing Blend plus Ginseng - daily, for the antioxidants which fight cancer and boost energy!(1 morning/evening). and 2 low dose aspirine - daily (81mg) (1 morning/evening) I take the morning one's after eating a Great Value Light 6 oz. tub of low fat fruit yogart ... (strawberry/banana is my favorite!) and the evening one's after eating supper. The best part is...all these can be bought at a Walmart Supercenter (even the yogart!) and cost about $30.00 for the biggest bottles they have (cost of all 4 combined) and will last one person for 5-17 weeks (due to the varying amounts in each bottle...Omegas have 100, Glucosamine/Chondroitin have 80, L-Lysine have 250, and Green Tea have 90 in each bottle) Great Value yogart is 5 tubs for $2.00 here. (I know Wally world's prices vary from place to place...so all these could be a little more or a little less where you are.) After taking them for 3 months, I can honestly say I feel better than I have felt in years, or ever felt while taking prescription meds. I hardly have any joint pain at all (and it's mostly in my ankles/feet from being up, about and using them more than I have in 20 years, lol!). I feel stronger, more energized, mentally/emotionally/hormonally stabilized and much healthier, too! I have more energy than I ever thought possible, I can do more than I've been able to do in years (I can crochet again, YEAH!! and go mushroom hunting, fishing, bike riding ... I've even ridden a horse for the first time in 15 years!!! (2 weeks ago! Lord, I was sore, but boy was it FUN and definately worth it!!! I was actually happy to have sore muscles from doing something I wasn't used to doing, instead of the usual painful muscles, joints and spine from arthritis!) I haven't had a 'charlie horse' in 2 months, no knee pain, no hip pain, no wrist or elbow pain...only the shoulder with bursitis and my neck area have had any distracting amount of pain at all and it was more from not using them so long then using them hard, but they're much better now!! Thing is, I can use them...and I hadn't been able to lift either arm over my head without causing excruciating pain or lift over 5 pounds with my left arm because of the bursitis and arthritic nodes on my spine and pinched nerves (for over a year!)...but now I can!! I can carry 50 lb bags of potting soil and fertilizer and not suffer any ill effects of the arthritis, afterward...just normal person type sore achey muscles, which I actually enjoy feeling again. Cool, huh? (Did I ever mention I love gardening and playing in dirt? hehe) I also have an appetite again ... but I am loosing weight! (already lost 24 pounds!! It took about a month for my weight to start going down, so be patient! As soon as I felt like moving around again...faster than my usual arthritic snail pace, the weight started dropping, so when you start feeling like moving, do it! ;-) Plus, I no longer have those annoying food and carb cravings!! This is great, too. The steriods had me well up over 200 lbs! At my current rate of loss (2-3 lbs a week, although I lost 5 the first week), I should be at 200 by the end of this month and in 5 months I'll weigh exactly what I should for my height and bone structure(150)!! My legs and feet will appreciate it, too! I can't wait!! My hair, nails and skin aren't dry anymore, either. (I hated having itchy dry skin and dry, brittle hair and nails!!) All in all, I feel GREAT! So, I wanted to share the good news with you all (and the reason I feel this way!!) I wish each and every one of you to feel like I do right now!!! Just don't try any of those supplements without your doctor's premission...but, by all means, get permission! You'll be glad you did! You won't even have to stop taking your meds (unless you and your doc get to feeling like they are doing more harm than good, like mine were ... my liver was a toxic waste land.) Well, everyone take care, God bless, be painfree and know I am lurking, even if you don't hear from me .. and also know I am enjoying a physical freedom I haven't had since I was a small child, so I won't be dormant in front of my computer much, only checking mail and doing what I have to, then back on my feet and out working in the sunshine! Love ya'all, Karla Fight From the scenic rolling hills and valleys of beautiful, nature and resource blessed Southern Indiana, just a few miles north of the Ohio River in county ;-). P.S. , Do you take paypal donations? I have a little cash in mine, which I'd be willing to donate (about $5.00), but need a paypal address to send it to. Does the group have a paypal account? If not, you (and/or whoever's in charge of group funds) might discuss getting one. Anyway, if there is a paypal address I can send that $5 to or if the group needs a link to sign up for one, let me know. KJ
Guest guest
Wow Karla! You *do* sound like you are feeling soooo much better! Thank you for checking in with us and letting sharing the good news! If the things you are taking instead of the meds are the reason you feel so great...keep on taking them! Guest guest
Dear Karla; I do have a Pay Pal account; however, I don't know how you would add funds to it. I haven't used it that much. If you are up on this information maybe you could share with me? mellymelt@... is my address. I would be happy to accept donations that way and will talk about it with the board members. I do see it as possibly an option for online activity in the future. Good luck with your therapy, it is really good to hear your so happy lately.
