For facial recognition, it takes me many exposures in different situations and

from many different angles to recognize faces. Different clothes throw me off

too. Add to that that I avoid eye contact and it makes it tough. I recognize

people by their voice. I met a lady with autism who recognizes by email address.

For my child having my phone, etc. issue, It's the same as them using my

computer. Personally, I'd rather the child had his own, maybe buy myself a new

one and give them the old. I have a dd 6 and son 9 with autism.

> As I mentioned, my son is developing an app for the smart phone for autism. It

will be used to teach life skills to autistics 5 and up. The first app (from

parent feedback)will include brushing teeth, washing hands when appropriate,

brushing hair (not just the sides or top but the back as well). He will continue

adding more and more scenarios to this app to teach other life skills. Once the

app is completed he plans on developing a game that will not only focus on life

skills but social skills are well. In the app as well as the game we plan on

adding things such as what happens at the dentist, what happens at the doctors

office, going to the hospital, both to visit and if you are sick, going shopping

and trying on shoes or clothing, and many other scenarios. In each scenario

there will be a vocabulary builder, social skills needed, and will be

interactive (game mainly). In the game we plan on having a facial recognition

game as well. The apps will continue growing and adding more and more skills in

it especially from parent feedback. As the mother of an autistic daughter I

remember what it was like when she was younger and the areas she had trouble in.

(she was diagnosed as moderate autism when she was 5.) I remember how we had to

take her to the dentist (when he was closed) and show her everything that was

going to happen in his office. We had to do the same thing when going shopping

for clothes or shoes. Then I would play act the scenario out for her to get her

used what was going to happen. I know some of the stress these kids go through

in new situations and how difficult it is for them. This is why we plan on

putting these things in the game and app.

does your child need help with. Also would you hand your child your smart phone

or iPad/pod? How old is your child? What social skills would you like them to

learn?
