Guest guest
thanks! .... no new changes for Lyme, bartonella or other co-infections - anyone aware of any? I know there are new types of bartonella that have been discovered, over 30 actually, just wondering if anybody knows about that. _________ Hi , Galaxy Diagnostics in Durham NC is a lab that specializes in Bartonella research and testing. See http://www.galaxydx.com/web/ and http://www.galaxydx.com/web/research/. These pages describes the difficulties encountered with traditional testing methods; that this group developed a special insect-based culture media to help eliminate PCR false negative tests for Bartonella. And that they are also capable of further PCR testing to identify Bartonellas down to the species level. Hopefully the emerging Bartonella research will yield more full DNA sequencing for the various Bartonella species in the future. (The situation with Babesia is similar). For those who are interested, also available at the bottom of the research page above are links to two articles written by Galaxy's chief scientific officer. One is titled " Persistent Blood-borne Infections and Complex Disease Expression " . This short review article addresses the varied immune responses to certain insect-transmitted blood diseases; blood as a microbial ecosystem; disease expression, etc. The direct link is: http://www.galaxydx.com/web/wp-content/uploads/2010/05/PersistentBloodBorneInfec\ tions.pdf The other is " Molecular Diagnosis of Infectious Diseases: The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly " . This second article describes the uses of various types of PCR testing, and what it can and cannot reliably tell us - using examples from the types of bacteria that Galaxy Lab works with. Direct link: http://www.galaxydx.com/web/wp-content/uploads/2010/05/MolecularDiagnosis.pdf This information may not have answered a question about specific frequencies for new types of Bartonellas, but let's hope that will change in the near future.
