Guest guest
Welcome Harsh (is this your real name? If so, very unsual! If not, we ask that you at least use your first real name here when signing your posts). > Can you please tell me how one enters the challenge ??? Does > it have to start on a particular date ??? But at the same time I saw sme list > member here post a mail that she was entering her 2nd challenge on May > 26th... So is the challenge date specific??? You can start any time and finish any time 12 weeks after your start date. You can enter up to 4 times a year, and your dates must not overlap. > M1 : Oatmeal + 1tbsp. Flax Seed Oil + 1/2 scoop Whey Protein. How much oatmeal? I'm a female and I eat 1/3 to 1/2 cup (dry). How many grams of protein are in a scoop? I doubt that 1/2 scoop is enough. > M2 : Strawberries + 1 spoon Cottage Cheese. How many strawberries? they are really yummy and I throw in a few extra because they are really low cal/low carb. How big is a spoon of Cottage cheese? Regardless, you probably aren't eating enough. I eat 1 cup of cottage cheese per meal. I would guess you need *at least* that since you are a male (assume). I believe that Brett eats up to 2 cups. We really need your weight, your bf% and your goals to know how much you need. > M3 : Tuna mixed with 1/2 egg + onion + fat free mayonnaise + 2 toasts (whole > wheat bread) + cucumbers That 1/2 egg, do you include the yolk? how do you do 1/2 an egg? I'd try to skip that step or leave out yolks. Raw? EW!! lol. Anyway, how much tuna? I'll eat around 1/2 a can (6 oz). Tuna is weird because if you're female, you probably won't be eating a whole can... thus, what to do with the rest. WW bread is " reluctantly " authorized. It's ok once in a while, but avoid eating it more than once a day. (that one is hard for me !) > M4 : Yopalit fat free yoghurt + 1 spoon cottage cheese Yogurt is good. Assuming you're eating a whole carton. Cottage cheese.. refer to above > M5 : Whey Protein shake + 1/2 apple How many carbs are in your protein shake? If it's balanced, nix the apple. If it's not, does the 1/2 apple balance it out? If not, then why not a whole apple?? > M6 : Chicken breast(grilled)[Marinated in low fat marinade] , brown rice , > cucumbers & mushrooms onions & 1 tbsp of safflower oil. All of that looks pretty good if you're eating the right portions. Careful with brown rice, you can easily eat *too much* of it! Is safflower oil an EFA? I think I'd stick to flaxseed oil myself. Watch the sugar content on that marinade. If they take something out they usually replace it with something else to make it taste good. Low fat doesn't necessarily mean low cal. > p.s: Although I have taken my " before " photos, my grifriend is not very > keen on taking photos..so I guess I will be entering the challenge alone, > although we both will work out and follow the meal plans. You should talk her into it. If she doesn't, and does well, she'll completely regret it later. You could take them, and then tell her you will not let her see them until she loses 10 pounds (or whatever her goals is). She'll really appreciate it I swear. Hope this helps Lana
Guest guest
Hi Lana, " Harsh " is my real name. LOL! I am from India and " Harsh " means happiness...But I know how it may sound to an American...I am living in Illinois and whenever I go to a restaurant and give my name for the order, the people are a little taken aback.. LOL...but thats alright.... I ate 1/2 a cup of oatmeal. Adn yes, from tomorrow I will make sure I add at least 1 scoop. I ate 6-7 strawberries with 2 spoons of cottage cheese. Yeah, I will eat at least 1/2 cup cottage chees from tomorrow. The egg was boiled and then mixed. One doubt :Why should I stay away from the yolk ??? have been thinking about that since last week.Cos they tell you to only eat the egg-whites.Why is that?? I dont know how many caloeries per scoop, the whey protein has. But how do i make sure that I am balancing the right amounth of carb e.g apple, with the protein shake??? Although my grifriend is enthusiastic about the whole diet and workout, it took a little prodding to get her this far. I feel that she is not as fired up as I am about this. I think thats why she is not so eager to take the snaps. I read the Body_for_life book again and again all the time.I must have read it at least 10 times now. I just like every chapter in teh book and read the success stories again and again and I get really fired up about it. But she is not as keen as I am ... Lets see how it goes. Anyway, thanks Lana for your help and detailed questions...This throws light on all the intricate details of the diet that I may be missing out on. Guest guest
Welcome Harsh ....and your girlfriend! What a wonderful decision you have made to do the Body For Life Protgram. I am on my 4th challenge since October 2001. You can see my photos at http://www.body-for-life-tracker.com/searchprofile.cfm?id=1466. I am very proud of the results I have enjoyed from participation in this program. I would never have really noticed the changes in my body had I not taken those pictures. Many others on this list have made some amazing and admirable changes as a result of doing this program, and many pictures are posted at our website under 'files'. Most of us have not regretted one minute of the hard work, commitment and sacrifice this program has demanded of us. It has become a way of living for many of us. So Please let me welcome you to our discussion group and say that I look forward to your participation. Kelley C4W5D2

LOL...but thats alright.... Well welcome Harsh! My son's middle name is Tee (family name) so unusual names are no biggie to me. Just makins sure it wasn't an online ID/nick. > I ate 1/2 a cup of oatmeal. Adn yes, from tomorrow I will > make sure I add at least 1 scoop. One scoop of protein? How many grams of protien per scoop? That will help us determine if you're eating enough. Before I go any further, how much do you weigh, do you know your bf % and what are your goals (to gain muscle/size maybe? or lose fat?) > I ate 6-7 strawberries with 2 spoons of cottage cheese. Yeah, I will eat at > least 1/2 cup cottage chees from tomorrow. Honestly, 1/2 cup probably isn't enough either! that's only 13 grams of protein. *I* eat a full cup, and like I said, I'm a girl, so you, being a guy, probably need at least what I'm eating. (most women eat 1/2 (very low) to 1 cup. Most guys eat 1 - 2 cups). A note about proteins... When doing bfl, you should follow the palm rule. (size of your protein is the size of your hand minus the fingers). EXCEPTIONS are: " fluffy " proteins (as jenb calls them) like cottage cheese and egg whites. I recommend making those proteins the size of your carbs. > The egg was boiled and then mixed. One doubt :Why should I > stay away from the yolk ??? have been thinking about that since last > week.Cos they tell you to only eat the egg-whites.Why is that?? Their is alot of fat in the yolk, and cholesterol, so it's really not the best for you. Plus there's really not *that much* extra protein to make it worth it. I used to have up to 3 yolks a day (every time I ate eggs I'd have a yolk). I've since weened myself off yolks completely. I can't stand the smell of them now!! > I dont know how many caloeries per scoop, the whey protein > has. But how do i make sure that I am balancing the right amounth of carb > e.g apple, with the protein shake??? It should say on the bottle where the nutrition information is how many grams are in a scoop. A scoop is probably considered a serving. As a rule of thumb, many ppl make their grams of carbs and grams of protein the same per serving. It will vary slightly in bfl depending on what you're eating. But if you're using a shake, you want to make sure it has close to the same amount of carbs (low in sugar) as it does protein. You don't have to be anal about it, just so it's near that. > > Although my grifriend is enthusiastic about the whole diet > and workout, it took a little prodding to get her this far. Well, at least she's trying! that's something. When she has some success, she'll probably get more fired up too. If she doesn't, then you can't force someone to do something they dont' want to! > Anyway, thanks Lana for your help and detailed > questions...This throws light on all the intricate details of the diet that > I may be missing out on. I always worry about information overload for newbies. (it happened to me.. my brain shut off when I first came here). lol. Just hoping that a little extra information will be enough to push you over the edge and make you super successful! Guest guest
Hi Lana, >One scoop of protein? How many grams of protien per scoop? That will help >us determine if you're eating enough. Before I go any further, how much do >you weigh, do you know your bf % and what are your goals (to gain >muscle/size maybe? or lose fat?) I checked the amount of protein per scoop ..Its 22 mg/g.(?). I had 1/2 cup of oatmeal(dry) with 1 scoop of protein and 1 tablespoon flax seed oil. >Honestly, 1/2 cup probably isn't enough either! that's only 13 grams of >protein. *I* eat a full cup, and like I said, I'm a girl, so you, being a >guy, probably need at least what I'm eating. I'll have to come up with some combination that will make it easy for me to eat 1-2 cups of it. I feel that it will take me the first week of this challenge or the whole of this 1st challenge to improvise on diet and learn from " eating mistakes " . I am so glad I fond this list. I should have thjought of it before.. it would have saved me 5 months of working out without eaiting properly...anyway.... its never too late. Thanks Lana, and for your help. Guest guest
Is there some way you could schedule your meals so that the meal after your workout includes the carb? The protein and carb should be eaten together. Myoplex is supposed to be balanced. Whenever I was working out in the evenings, I'd eat a meal at 3 pm, and then do cardio at 5:30. If you are trying to lose fat, you are supposed to go without food for 3 hours before cardio or do it in the morning on an empty stomach. If it was a weight day, I'd do my workout right after eating dinner at 6:30 pm. Currently, I always get up a little before 6 am and do my workouts and this is working out great for me. It is just better for me since it is now a set schedule and I rarely have to worry about something interfering with the workout at that time of day.
