Guest guest
Good morning--The State Legislature is currently considering two bills, A.6328/S.3921, which prohibits discrimination against people with disabilities by State and local governments. It mirrors Title II of the federal Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) of 1990. The ADA established a great number of protections for people with disabilities, such as employment rights and access to public services. The New York State Human Rights Law includes some, but not all, of the ADA's protections for people with disabilities. Conforming the State statute to the ADA will clarify the obligations of government officials to take reasonable steps to ensure that their services, programs and activities are available to people with disabilities. This includes the elimination of architectural barriers and the provision of auxiliary aids, such as sign language interpreters. Please use the link below to send letters to your Assembly Representative and State Senator asking for them to support and pass this important legislation.http://capwiz.com/rochestercdr/mail/oneclick_compose/?alertid=7436011Thank you!
