good post, just wanted to note MG, not GM.

BIG diff between 4.5 or 3.0 GraMs and 4.5 or 3.0 MilliGrams

Re: [low dose naltrexone] LDN- Lower Dose Than 3

Ahem!

Actually, I "eyeball" it...-Works fine for me!

I open up the capsule, tip half the contents into an empty same size capsule, tap both capsules on the table to ensure even settling, & adjust further if necessary until I am satisfied that the amounts are sufficiently balanced.

My rationale is that the contents are mostly filler, the amount of LDN is proportionately very small, so if care is taken with the dividing it is not difficult to be sufficiently accurate: At these Low Doses, I regard very slight fluctuations as not important, For example, I am dividing my 6gm capsules into two 3gm capsules, now how do I really know whether I would be best on 2.8gms, 3gms or3.2gms? -I don`t! but quite possibly I would feel a difference if I took 4.5 gm. Fortunately it is very easy to get a lot more accurate than 1.5 : 4.5 !(provided the capsules are equally settled with tapping, this larger inbalance would be very obvious visually).

Some ask "how do you know that the LDN is dispersed evenly in the filler so that you are not left

with all the LDN in one half of the division?" -My response to this is that the dispensing pharmacist must have mixed it properly in the first place, otherwise it would not have been possible to dispense the original sized doses accurately.

Seems to come down to a personal decision, doesn`t it? -If you are able & happy fiddling around doing this sufficiently carefully, then why not? If you are not, then don`t!Ihas been reported that Dr Bihari himself has advised "tipping a bit out", if the capsules seem to strong. To me this scarcely seems to indicate that he regards the ultimate degree of accuracy is essential!

I notice that it is the dispensing pharmacists that seem to be most against this dividing & I do wonder if this might be because such unprofessional fiddling around somehow offends their professional sense of propriety? This would seem to be quite understandable. (Also, presumably, such adjusting would be considerably more problematic with the more dangerous drugs & at the higher doses that they are probably accustomed to working with?)

Best Wishes,

Gerald

PS If you are able to do it yourself, you also have the option of trying 2gms if you wish, (by dividing 2 capsules & making 3)!

I was wondering...how do I get my 3 mg capsules of LDN down to 1.5? Do I need a new prescription?

I open my 3 mg capsul and dump half onto a folded index card and recap the other half for use the next day. I then take the 1.5mg portion on my index card and use that for the evening. I don't think there is a difference in dropping the powder on your tongue vs. pouring it into a class of water. The quantity is all the same, unless you sneeze;-)

The only reliable method I can think of for reducing 3 mg capsules down to

1.5 mg doses would be to dissolve the 3 mg capsule in 3 ml of distilled

water, and then use a syringe to draw up 1.5 ml of the resulting solution,

which would contain 1.5 mg of naltrexone. That would be a pain, but it

would be a way of dealing with getting the lower dosage until you could get

a new prescription for the lower dose. I would never suggest dumping the

capsule out and trying to get half of what was in it because you wouldn't

be able to tell which of the contents were filler and which was the

naltrexone, at least not accurately enough.

I have tried to use 3mg per 3ml of distilled water and to suck up only 1.5 ml of solution. You still have to judge the amount of cloudy solution you think you have vs remaining solution. That is why I just started dumping out the aprox powder. At least I could see what I was getting and not hiding any amount in the bottom of the dropper or tablespoon / mixing bowl. In the end I didn't think that the perfect amount was my objective.

However, I have returned to the 3mg capsul and the No Dairy (milk products) diet.
