Guest guest
Please be more specific. What do you mean when you got " there " that it was a different story? Some vitamins have been very helpful in some of the children. Not all treatments work for all children, but I have found vitamins/mineral, amino acid & other supplements to be very helpful & I know several families whose children have improved drastically from taking them. Sorry to hear that it didn't do anything for your daughter, but I'm concerned about you saying these conferences & vitamins are scams. Of course, there are unscrupulous people out there that go after vulnerable people. Treating autism is a costly endeavor, mainly b/c the insurance companies don't cover much of it. No matter what we try to help our kids, almost always means it's out of pocket, unfortunately. Hope you have better luck with helping your daughter in the future. Marie > Beware of scams!!! Guest guest
The education and knowledge are free, but you have to do your own research. Yes, supplements and other interventions are not free. Did you expect anything different? All of our kids have different health issues and respond differently to all interventions and therapies. It's a lot of work being a detective and figuring out what is going on in our kids' bodies and brains. It's very simplistic to say " there is nothing in a vitamin that will cure autism. " If an autistic child is severely deficient in a crucial nutrient, then supplying it can bring vast improvements in health and cognitive functioning. If an autistic child is reacting negatively to certain foods, eliminating them can also have dramatic effects. I have seen this with my own daughter. Getting angry when you allowed someone else to sell you something and it didn't " work " is not the answer. If you are happy with your daughter the way she is, that's great. But don't discourage others from trying to help their children be as healthy as they can be and live the best lives they can. Yes, it can be frustrating when you have tried so many things and don't see the miracles that are so often promised, but that just means there is more to be discovered. It doesn't mean it's a " scam " . Our children are as different as snowflakes, and the human body is exquisitely complex. I will never stop trying to help my daughter. It doesn't mean I don't " accept her the way she is. " But she deserves to have the best life I can provide for her. She is worth every penny and all the sweat and tears and heartbreak when I see her happy and well, and how much progress she has made. > > > >> Beware of scams!!! We found ours at a ausism Expo. Guest guest
I am SO GLAD I hadn't read Janet's comments before we tried some new vitamin/supplements that CURED OUR DAUGHTER'S SOCIAL ANXIETY or we may never have tried them! We got advice (here I think) to try Kirkman's Children's Chewable Multivitamin/Mineral Wafer w/Xylitol and as soon as we put her on one per day, it was like a new little girl emerged who was gregarious, unafraid, open and friendly, the POLAR OPPOSITE of how she had been for 11 years. We also put her on Revitapops at the same time, and she started singing with me in church at the same time, too. So we weren't sure what caused most of her Autism symptoms to go away but when we recently ran out of supplements she retreated into her social anxiety again. We quickly replenished our supply and she's back to her new normal - social anxiety completely gone. We're pretty darned sure it was the vitamin/supplements that solved many of her symptoms. Guest guest
One was suggested to us so that was what we tried. The results were miraculous. We never thought to give her 2 per day. Guest guest
We never expected the miracle we received. That isn't why we tried the new supplements. My daughter has food issues too, and a very limited diet (no fruits or veggies), so we tried one and we were surprised and grateful to see what a tremendous impact it made on our daughter. She is as amazed as we are. Respectfully, Cheryl, we do much more than just be there and try to help my daughter. We've left no stone unturned in our effort to help our daughter manage and/or overcome some of her Autism symptoms. We've tried many services which seemed not to be effective at all. We've talked with numerous doctors here in Northern California and in San Francisco who were supposed to be " specialists " at Autism. We've prayed every day both with my daughter and for her since we got her diagnosis 3 years ago. We're not convinced that it was just the supplements which caused her amazing recovery from most of her Autism symptoms. For all we know it was everything we did, not just one thing we did. We DO know that when we ran out of supplements for a week or so, her social anxiety came back, and when we resumed the supplements it went a way again. We never gave up hope that something might help her communicate better with us and/or that she might lose her fear of so many things. We explored every avenue that other parents told us had worked for them, and we're grateful that we didn't ever stop exploring new suggestions. ly, it doesn't matter what you or I think might make our childrens' Autism any better. What we think is irrelevant to what might actually work. I had resigned myself to the fact that my daughter might never overcome any of her more extreme symptoms. In fact, when she played soccer the first year, every time the game resumed she would look over at me on the sidelines and I had to run toward her to get her to start running. Then she would run and participate like any other child, until that play was over. It went on for the whole game, every play, all season, and I was grateful to be able to help her in that way. After we put her on these supplements (different supplements help different kids), the next year I didn't have to run at all. That aspect of her social anxiety was gone. I got to just sit and watch her play. It was a miracle to us and to her. I never looked for any magical cure, either. We just tried absolutely everything we heard of in order to see if it would help our little girl. Magic had nothing to do with it. BTW my daughter still has food issues, too. That was why we tried these supplements originally. And we'll continue to try the next thing that we hear a parent say might help her with that issue. Don > > > > > Beware of scams!!! Guest guest
As a parent of a slightly older child - my daughter is 14 - I've been through a lot of this for a long time. While there was a great deal of enthusiasm for biomedical treatments such as secretin and Vit B12/Magnesium about 10 years ago, these things have been exhaustively studied, and have been found to be ineffective in treating autism. I agree with Janet in that I do think that there are a lot of people out there trying to make a fortune off " treating " our children. One must be very careful to avoid falling into this trap. Janet is indeed correct - the practitioners want you coming back and buying supplements and treatment, so they will try to keep up your hope by telling you that if X doesn't work, you should try Y. Those people at the conferences have a HUGE conflict of interest in selling all those supplements, which can add up to a large amount of money. And that is before you move so far down the path that you are paying for IV chelation, and HBOT treatments, even buying your own chamber. Giving vitamins in safe quantities is a perfectly reasonable thing to do, and certainly could help kids with deficiencies due to picky diets. However, there is no evidence that biomedical treatments can treat the symptoms of autism. It's buyer beware. And please don't let yourself be " guilted " into thinking that you are not a great parent because you haven't tried all the snake-oil that is out there. > > > well maybe i haven't been the best mother, and yes, i probably could have done alot more for her, my issue is, i have another 2 children, who needed my attention. my eldest is type 1 diabetic, she became this at 11, and then my son,who so far has no real issues.................my type 1 had to adjust to 5 needles a day and become gluten free....so where was i going to find the time to do any of this stuff?
