So Don, you give her just one per day even though the bottle suggests 2?

Was that just because that was an amount that worked for her or was 1 what

was suggested by the person who referred you to them?

Oh ok... I was just curious. I know I give my daughter 2 gummy vitamins

because the label said 2 was the serving size and the directions said 2 per

day. But then my mom was over one day and my daughter wanted the second

gummy and my mom was telling her no cause it wasn't candy and she could only

have one per day etc. But of course my dd was used to 2 so she kept

insisting on the second one, and just before we hit meltdown stage I walked

in and said she could have it, I started to get the lecture on potential

dangers of giving too many vitamins, so I pointed out that it clearly says

to give 2 and she was shocked, lol. She said she'd never paid any attention

and just always gave one to all her kids (she used to do foster care) and

thought that was what the dose was. *shaking my head* lol

I think I'm going to place an order for some of these myself. My dd used to

eat the gummies and it was the only vitamins she would take, then a few

weeks ago she has decided that she doesn't like them and now she won't even

consider looking at them, lol.

Thanks!

well maybe i haven't been the best mother, and yes, i probably could have done

alot more for her, my issue is, i have another 2 children, who needed my

attention. my eldest is type 1 diabetic, she became this at 11, and then my

son,who so far has no real issues.................my type 1 had to adjust to 5

needles a day and become gluten free....so where was i going to find the time to

do any of this stuff? Also i like to work as well, gives me a sense of being

normalinstead of sitting at home worrying...........i have had a bad couple of

weeks with situations at school with Hannah,. Prayer...........you have no idea

how much we pray......

We never expected the miracle we received. That isn't why we tried the new

supplements. My daughter has food issues too, and a very limited diet (no fruits

or veggies), so we tried one and we were surprised and grateful to see what a

tremendous impact it made on our daughter. She is as amazed as we are.

Respectfully, Cheryl, we do much more than just be there and try to help my

daughter. We've left no stone unturned in our effort to help our daughter manage

and/or overcome some of her Autism symptoms. We've tried many services which

seemed not to be effective at all. We've talked with numerous doctors here in

Northern California and in San Francisco who were supposed to be " specialists "

at Autism. We've prayed every day both with my daughter and for her since we got

her diagnosis 3 years ago. We're not convinced that it was just the supplements

which caused her amazing recovery from most of her Autism symptoms. For all we

know it was everything we did, not just one thing we did. We DO know that when

we ran out of supplements for a week or so, her social anxiety came back, and

when we resumed the supplements it went a way again.

We never gave up hope that something might help her communicate better with us

and/or that she might lose her fear of so many things. We explored every avenue

that other parents told us had worked for them, and we're grateful that we

didn't ever stop exploring new suggestions.

ly, it doesn't matter what you or I think might make our childrens' Autism

any better. What we think is irrelevant to what might actually work. I had

resigned myself to the fact that my daughter might never overcome any of her

more extreme symptoms. In fact, when she played soccer the first year, every

time the game resumed she would look over at me on the sidelines and I had to

run toward her to get her to start running. Then she would run and participate

like any other child, until that play was over. It went on for the whole game,

every play, all season, and I was grateful to be able to help her in that way.

After we put her on these supplements (different supplements help different

kids), the next year I didn't have to run at all. That aspect of her social

anxiety was gone. I got to just sit and watch her play. It was a miracle to us

and to her.

I never looked for any magical cure, either. We just tried absolutely everything

we heard of in order to see if it would help our little girl. Magic had nothing

to do with it.

BTW my daughter still has food issues, too. That was why we tried these

supplements originally. And we'll continue to try the next thing that we hear a

parent say might help her with that issue.

Cheryl, you have been the best mother you can be. Everyone has different

circumstances in life & we all deal with things differently. I know you

love all your children & are doing the best that YOU can do; what more can

anyone ask for. If we could do everything for everyone, take care of

everyone & still take care of yourself, & then there's the rest of the world

too.....it never ends.

Well, i haven't really tried any of these so called " remedies " i've been on

boards like this for years, ever since she was properly diagnosed and i have

read, and i have read the comments lots of mothers make. i guess living wherei

live doesn't help either even if i wanted to go chase all these different

things, as we are not near any cities. i've just had too much happen in this

little family of ours. We purposely moved towns in '03, as we didnt like the

public school our kids were going too, yes, it was fairly good for the autistic

daughter, but we had to think of our other 2 children............so hannah

didn't get as much funding when we moved private for an aide, but the advantages

were, the classes were smaller, and they were christian, so any bullying or

teasing was stamped out mighty quick...........so advantages and disadvantages i

guess. Hannah will be 17 this year............

As a parent of a slightly older child - my daughter is 14 - I've been

through a lot of this for a long time. While there was a great deal of

enthusiasm for biomedical treatments such as secretin and Vit B12/Magnesium

about 10 years ago, these things have been exhaustively studied, and have been

found to be ineffective in treating autism. I agree with Janet in that I do

think that there are a lot of people out there trying to make a fortune off

" treating " our children. One must be very careful to avoid falling into this

trap. Janet is indeed correct - the practitioners want you coming back and

buying supplements and treatment, so they will try to keep up your hope by

telling you that if X doesn't work, you should try Y. Those people at the

conferences have a HUGE conflict of interest in selling all those supplements,

which can add up to a large amount of money. And that is before you move so far

down the path that you are paying for IV chelation, and HBOT treatments, even

buying your own chamber.

Giving vitamins in safe quantities is a perfectly reasonable thing to do, and

certainly could help kids with deficiencies due to picky diets. However, there

is no evidence that biomedical treatments can treat the symptoms of autism. It's

buyer beware. And please don't let yourself be " guilted " into thinking that you

are not a great parent because you haven't tried all the snake-oil that is out

there.

yes, i know, i just wish the people associated with hannah could understand a

little more of what we go throughdaily.............they only have her a few

hours a day...we have her 24/7, and as we told them, in time, you getused to the

unusual [by their standards] routines and funny eccentricities.............it

just becomes part of life.
