***Bjorn,

***Regarding your statement below regarding :

" I think its a fair statement that Louie , Tate and other

contributors to this site having built on the foundation of science and research

of

others( Siff, Zatsiorski, Prilbin, etc) and developed as practical,

progressive, innovative, training routines/exercises for Strength/force training

as can

be found anywhere. "

***The article includes inaccurate information in regard to this statement:

" Remember also that the stretch reflex lasts a full two seconds, so there is no

need to touch and go off the box. " So, Louie does not always present correct,

scientific information. I believe he often reads the information and then

forgets what is actually said. I know that has happened in my case, thus I

check

my sources before putting it in print. So, the incorrect information he

presented was not intentional.

***Before moving on let me add that I have learned a lot and continue to

learn from Louie. He is a great strength coach and I often quote him.

***This exert my upcoming article, in Powerlifting USA, goes into the

dissipation time of the stretch reflex. " Research by et. al. (1990)

examined

different delay times in the bench press and showed that the benefits of prior

stretch may endure for as long as 4 seconds, at which point it is suggested

that all stored elastic energy is lost. This could lead one to believe that

there is full retention of a stretch reflex if the amortization phase is 4

seconds

or less. However, the stretch reflex begins to dissolve immediately. Even a

short pause will negate the stretch reflex. Additional research indicates that

" delays as short as .02 seconds are sufficient to dissipate the benefits of

prior stretch " , with up to 50% of the stretch reflex being lost in one second.

(Siff and Verkhoshansky, 1998). Therefore, is can be concluded that the longer

the pause, the less powerful the contraction. To put it simply, the longer it

sits, the heavier it gets. "

***The same basic time frame exist for box squatting as it does for bench

pressing. Any hesitation on the box dulls the stretch reflex. The information

posted above regarding 's and Siff/Vekhoshansky's data concerning

retention time of the stretch reflex can be found on page 285-286 of

Supertraining
