Guest guest
Hi , Welcome. You will definitely get some good advice from the group members here. I know that I have. My daughter will be 9 in May. She has mild-moderate autism and an anxiety disorder. The anxiety is worse than the autism because her phobias are irrational and spontaneous. That being said, she is the light of my life. I love her dearly. She is already wearing training bras and is nearing a womanly shape. I fear puberty, but I'm not stressing out about it. Someone once told me to have her practice wearing sanitary napkins so when the time comes that she HAS to wear them, she will already know which ones are the most comfortable. I had planned to practice this during our Christmas break, but I postponed it (had relatives come for the holidays) until Spring break. I think this may be a good first step for you. My daughter has been in the bathroom with me when my cycle is on, so she has a concrete visual (if there is such a thing). I keep my explanations at her level and brief. This helps so that I don't scare her, and that some of the information gets into her brain. There are videos out also, but I haven't looked into them yet. Someone on this group also mentioned a book, but unfortunately, I didn't write it down. You may want to look into those media sources also. Sorry I can't be of more help to you. Again, welcome. Karmen New to the Group  Hello. A very caring woman and mother I know from another Autism group recommended this group. I have been here for a few days reading. I am a single mom of 9 year old Amber. Amber will be 10 in April and has an IQ of 27. She is both Autistic and mentally retarded. Her abilities, depending on the task, range from age 1 to 3. I am looking to talk to other moms of low functioning daughters to try and figure out how to care for Amber as she becomes a teenager and young adult.
