Steroid Tapering

Hi Everyone,

I have a question that actually relates to my Dad, but I know someone here will know the answer.

Have any of you been approx. 60 mg. of prednisone for a 2 week period- if so how did they taper, a few days of 30 mg. and then nothing?

I started with 40, went to 20, but took 40

when I'm needed it. As long as I

was teaching, I was pretty much there.

After I retired, I stabilized 20, and then took 10 as often as I could

until I was stabilized at 10. Then the it was between five and 10, the same method, and I

stayed for a decade between five or five every other day. Now I have the five down to two, but I

don't know if that will work when spring the running around comes about. That pretty much describes the way I

tapered. Think I'll ever get off it? My rheumy thinks five is fine, but my internest wants me to get off it.

I was at 60 beth pretty sure i went to 40 mg then 20mgs then to 10mgs and from there tried and failed twice to wean completly down,have been able to get down to 2 mgs presently im at 7.5 and tapering slow.Seems like there asking him to taper awful fast,but it could depend on what hes taking it for(i do know it can cause some shock to the system if abrutly discontinued).Take care i hope your fathers pred reduction goes ok,alot of us here fight that battle. d.Canada
