The ABC's of School Mental Health

A Health Policy Forum Hosted by:

The Texas Health Institute in collaboration with the Texas

Department of State Health Services

THE ABC's of School Mental Health

Schools play a key role in the health and development of

our total population. Addressing mental health issues is essential to promoting

learning and recognizing the need for emotionally safe and supportive schools.

The Health Policy Forum offers a thought-provoking

opportunity to learn about school-based mental health research, policies and

practices.

Our speakers will discuss critical aspects of school

mental health in Texas and the nation.

Topics will include:

c.. policy implications

d.. personal accounts of positive school-based

interventions

e.. hope for a healthier society by promoting

protective factors collaborations within Communities

About the Texas Health Institute

Health Policy Forums addressing emerging health issues such as mental health

transformation. The goal of forums is to provide policy decision-makers and

other health care leaders and stakeholders with unbiased information about

critical health and medical issues and a neutral " safe " environment in which to

discuss these issues.

As a non-partisan organization, the Institute has built

its reputation as a neutral convener and has been extremely successful at

facilitating balanced dialogue among diverse groups of health professionals.

Forum attendees represent increasingly varied and diverse political and health

policy viewpoints - an indication that the forums are serving their purpose of

bringing together diverse policymakers to explore solutions to complex health

issues.
