Guest guest
Hello Supertrainers, A couple people have mentioned a study performed in which Olympic Weightlifters' physical abilities were put to the test by competing in events that included sprinting, high-jumping, etc? Does anyone have the reference for this or similar studies? I would very much like to study this research. I am certain Mel would be proud of the sharing of information and investigative discussion that continues on his Supertraining List. Thank you, Battis Concord, NH

Al. A Comparison of Strength and Power Characteristics Between Power Lifters, Olympic Lifters, and Sprinters. Journal Of Strength and Conditioning Research. 1999: 13 (1): 58-66 Hope that helps. If you don't have Supertraining go onto Pubmed and type in Hakkinen (1984, 1985) – make sure you have a look at related articles as well. Please do share your findings with the group. Guest guest
I looked up the comments that you were referring to. I agree with the conclusions, but would like to find the original article: Hakkinen K, Kauhanen H & Komi P (1985) Comparison of neuromuscular performance capacities between weightlifters, powerlifters and bodybuilders. International Olympic Lifter, USA 7: 24-26. As part of my Masters literature review, I am reviewing studies of various training programs and the effects on vertical jump. I am in need of studies comparing olympic lifting to other training programs. I remember reading a few studies years ago that compared plyometrics to olympic lifting...and possibly another group of weight training with plyometrics. I have been unsuccessful in finding these studies. If anyone has the references, they would be greatly appreciated. Additionally, I am searching for video clips of olympic lifters jumping. I know I have seen a clip of Shane Hamman doing a back flip, but I can't find that now either. It sucks that you can't find the info when you need it...haha. Anyway, if anyone has impressive video clips of vertical jumps, Shane Hamman dunking a volleyball, etc., then please send them my way. Thanks for any help, Gabe Rinaldi Los Altos, CA > ***Have a look in Supertraining, pages 32 / 454. If you don't have > Supertraining go onto Pubmed and type in Hakkinen (1984, 1985) – make > sure you have a look at related articles as well. Please do share > your findings with the group. > > HTH - Good luck > Carruthers > Wakefield > UK >
Guest guest
I don't know if these will any use to you, but here you go anyway: Clutch et al, (1983) The effect of depth jumps and weight training on leg strength and vertical jump. Research quarterly for exercise and sport. 54 (1) P5-10. Fatouros et al (2000) Evaluation of plyometric exercise training, weight training, and their combinatioin on vertical jumping performance and leg strength. Journal of strength and conditioning research. 14 (4) p470-476. Newton et al, (1999) Effects of ballistic training on preseason preparation of elite velleyball players. Med Sci Sports and Ex, 31 (2) p323-330. et al, (1993)The optimal training load for the development of dynamic athletic performance. Med Sci Sports and Ex, 25 (11)1279- 1286. Lyttle et al, (1996) Enhancing performance: maximal power versus combined weights and plyometrics training. Journal of Strength and Conditioning Research. 10 (3) p173-179. Gehri et al, (1998) A comparison of plyometric training techniques for improving vertical jump ability and energy production. Journal of Strength and Conditioning Research. 12 (2) p85-89. Baker et al (?) The load that maximises the average mechanical power output during jump squats in power-trained athletes. Journal of Strengh and Conditioning Research. 15 (1) p92-97. I hope this helps, I have some more somewhere upstairs, I'll try and dig them out. Regards, Lake, Lancing, West Sussex, UK. > I looked up the comments that you were referring to.
