Guest guest
I applied for ihfs back in June and was told I needed to fill out application and turn it in asap because there was a waiting list and funds were handed out on first come basis. Funds became available in Sept.(this is when the new year starts, or this is what I was told) It is based on family income and you can receive up to $2500.00. This can be used for therapy, equipment, respite and other things (you can ask for a copy of covered items/services) cjw4111963 wrote: Hi, My son's name came up on the In Home and Family Support Program of County. Can anyone help me with how/whether he would qualify for services. I noticed that I am being asked about our family income. Can services be denied based on family income. I am primarily looking for respite services. Thanks! Crystal

Guest guest
Yes, the amount of grant you get is contingent on your income, but it is a sliding scale and they do consider the # of family members and some counties will even look at extinuating circumstances (medical bills etc..) You might not qualify for 100% of the grant, but you can qualify for any other percentage (20%, 30%, 50% 60% etc...)What happens is every receipt you submit you will get reimbursed at the % you qualified for until you spend the whole grant amount in one budget year. Guest guest
My son was on IHFS for many years - actually until he was approved for CLASS. Your son will qualify based on diagnosis only first. Then the amount you receive will be based on a sliding scale that is in relation to your income and number of family members. They help pay for services, in-home therapy equipment (which can be small things as well as large items), insurance co-pays for therapies. We were even able to get a trampoline which our OT recommended. They also have a one-time grant that you can apply for that is for home modifications. They are also suppose to help you find other sources to help you such as HCS and CLASS. They are not suppose to remove you from their program unless you no longer qualify or they find another agency to place you with. They will come to your house once a quarter for a meeting that is real short - just to check and make sure everything is okay and you do not need additional assistance. You can also get money for respite care. IHFS's year begins in September and that is normally when all their money is " assigned " . If someone gets off, they can pick up other people. Once you are on with them, you will still need to apply every year. Those who are on the program the prior year, will be considered first the next year. We found them very easy to work with and other than the start up paperwork and annual paperwork, not much was required throughout the year. Good luck. cjw4111963 wrote: Hi, My son's name came up on the In Home and Family Support Program of County. Can anyone help me with how/whether he would qualify for services. Guest guest
The offices are divided to serve counties. We went through Brazoria/Galveston County MHMR. Also, your child does not have to carry the MR diagnosis to qualify. It is one of the only resources we found that would take us without the MR diagnosis, didn't disqualify us because of income, age or disability. It is very unique. Of course, the larger the county, the longer the waiting list. Guest guest
No you can not. Their primary role is to help you until they can find other resourses to help you. Guest guest
I know that if you receive HCS medicaid waiver you cannot receive IHFS. I am guessing that the same applies to CLASS. From my understanding, IHFS is a stop gap grant until you can get on a medicaid waiver program.
