Guest guest
By the way....in my intro I said I was thin-boned. That sounds strange, I really meant small-boned. Does that make more sense? I made it sound like I have osteoporosis or something.

There is a real mix of people who are in various stages of the program...brand new such as yourself, up to people who have been doing the program for 2 or 3 years. Everyone here is happy to respond to your questions or direct you to resources than can best help you. No question is stupid to ask anything you feel you need to know. We often post our menus to (1) make ourselves plan; (2) to get feedback on whether they are the right balance of protein, carbs, & fats. So why don't you give that a shot. We won't bite you. (Pokes don't count as bites, do they?) You are on your way to a stronger healthier body. Congratulations on your decision and commitment. I'm new to this list as of a couple of days ago, so I'm still trying to get a feel for how things operate around here. Please bear with me! Welcome . Glad to see you join. Make a habit of stopping by and everyone is sure to help you out. > I'm also new to Body for Life. I purchased the book two weeks ago, and I just started my first challenge this past Monday. The first week went really well even though I'm still trying to figure out some things (like meals!). I purchased some Myoplex Lite shakes and bars. There were so many choices, I'm still not sure I bought the right thing. Maybe I should have gotten Carb Sense? > I'm sure I'll have questions as I go, and I'll look forward to all of your support and advice. My goal is to gain strength and some muscle...an overall toned and defined look. I do have an extra challenge of a muscular condition similar to fibromyalgia, but I'm convinced this plan can do nothing but help, especially if I don't overdo it. So far, after my first week, I feel good! > > If you are looking to get some muscles then the Myoplex Lite shakes might not be doing it for you. You have to have some fuel in your body to create the muscle. Otherwise all of your reserves will just go into repair and not as much will be tagged for muscle growth. Have you gotten a set of calipers and had someone take some pictures of your for your before shots? I have to get my pictures up here so everyone can see how I'm doing. Maybe by doing so we can help give you more direction. There is also a database section on here that can help you publicly list your gains/losses in weight and fat. I plan on keeping mine updated big time. If you have a muscular condition as well, you may wish to talk to your doctor to make sure that some of the stress of the weight training won't do more harm than good. You and I seem to have started up on the same day. This is (hopefully) going to be the first challenge I have completed. I've gotten as far as 8 weeks before. " Real life getting in the way " has been my excuse before. The best excuse, however, is still just that... An Excuse. Maybe you and I can stick together. This way you know that I'm doing the same hard workout you are. As for me, I'm sore as hell. The only part of me that isn't sore today would have to be my abs. Must work them harder next time. I had to take a break on Friday from working out I was so sore. So Saturday was my upper body and this morning was my cardio. I'm still not where I want to be with cardio, but I had a good upper body workout, so things seem to be getting back in the groove. Best of luck, and kep us posted. -Dan L. Guest guest
Thanks for the welcome, Dan. I, too, have been really sore, but not unbearable. I did my upper body for the second time last Friday, and just moving my arms over the weekend was fun. This morning I did lower body, so we'll see how that goes. I'm actually feeling alot better overall since I started, and yes, I did check with my doctor and therapist. I was just advised to take it slow and not overdo. If it makes me feel worse, then I'll have to stop, but so far I feel better. They have told me all along my problem is from weakness, so I do special *core* strengthening exercises and stretches that they give me as well. I cannot do heavy weights, but that's ok, it's not like I could lift them anyway. The short of it is I feel that if I can get stronger, I may not have a condition to worry about. That's a major incentive!! Right now I'm having trouble because the Myoplex shakes make me feel awful (the chemical asparatame is the problem if you didn't read my other post). I need to find a different protein/carb/whatever shake to use. And I could use some fresh dinner ideas too. Everyone keep posting your menus..that helps! Any good recipes would be great as well. I'd like to do a good stir-fry, but I'm not sure what it is okay to season with...low sodium soy sauce or something else? I have a Tanita bodyfat scale that I used, rather than calipers. When I started my bodyfat was 24%, and I weighed 113.5. I don't have specific numerical goals in those areas. I'm not sure what my bodyfat should be, and I don't care about my weight as long as it's muscle and I look good. My husband is doing this with me, so it is great to have that support as well. Guest guest
Welcome ! It sounds like you have thoroughly checked things out with your medical provider before starting the program... good on ya girl! Keep checking in with us often and please feel free to ask as many questions as you like, that's what we are here for! There are several options out there as far as protein shakes are concerned that do not contain aspartame. You might want to check the Files section on the website for a review of various protein powders... I think it mentions whether they have aspartame or not (altho they were done more for taste/price than content). Anyway, you can also check out several online websites for protein powders or meal replacement shakes that do not contain aspartame. I use www.netrition.com - they list the nutritional ingredients of every product. Good luck! Jen B. > Hi Everyone, > > I just wanted to say a hello and introduce myself.
