Hi everyone,

Finally, we have more than enough milk for the customers so I'm making

butter. My husband built a cream separator, and now I have over 2 lbs

of lovely yellow butter in my fridge (and more coming tomorrow). Does

anyone know where to get molds that look like the shape you buy butter

in at the store? It's really handy to be able to have 1/2 cup total,

and to be able to take it off in tablespoon slices instead of dipping

and squashing it into your measuring spoon. I know the customers would

appreciate it, too. I can't find these molds anywhere. Ideas?

Thanks!

Kathy,Check eBay. I have seen several there. Make sure they are cleanable. I wonder about the old wood ones if they can be properly cleaned so new butter does not get off flavors? Maybe someone else on here can let us know. I would like to buy one myself. I find patting out the balls of butter a little boring.... it would be nice to have a nice design pressed into it!KerryKerry van Wiltenburg Subject: Butter moldsTo: RawDairy Received: Thursday, January 8, 2009, 7:20 PM

Try looking for a Tupperware container that is a shape that you want. I had some that when it came out it was close to stick size. Then you will have to weigh the butter as you put it in the mold so that you get the right amount to work with. It worked really well for me. I froze the butter to make it easier to get out.

My husband made a butter mold out of wood and used a dremmel to to dremmel out our brand which is then raised on top of the butter.

If you want a design on the top of the butter, why not gently press a cookie press onto the top of the butter. Not sure if you would need to chill the butter first or not (so the mold releases better). Just an idea.

Hi Kathy

Here is something I have done in the past:

Take a round 1/2 cup dry measuring cup and line it with plastic wrap, waxed paper,et (I use plastic wrap). But do line it. Make your butter as usual and try and get ALL the buttermilk out of it. Pat butter in the measuring cup. using the plastic wrap pull the butter out of measuring cup fold the wrap around the butter to seal it. Can be stored in a freezer container (plastic bag or other container). Your block of butter is easy to divide into 1/4 c measures and even tbsp measures. Cut it like a pizza or pie into 8 slices if you need tbsp. Works great!
