11 year old daughter heading into puberty - huge spike in OCD

Hi everyone, I am new to the group. My daughter is an 11 year old with autism

and has just recently had a major increase in OCD behaviors. It is coinciding

with the onset of puberty. Transitioning ANYWHERE (upstairs to downstairs) is

taking forever. I can tell in her mind that it's just NOT ok to push her. It

has resulted in the school lessesning the number of activities she has,

practically dehabilitates our family life (I have a typical 8 year old with

activities). She is functionally non-verbal and communicates with vocal

approximations and gestures and some sign language, but mostly her speech is

manding (requesting) and one or two words. She can't tell me what she is

thinking, and can't answer questions, so I can only just guess. None of my

previous ABA or other training seems to be working. Even transitioning to

highly desirable activities is very slow. Any suggestions on things that have

worked for others?????

OCD Routines include: taking tiny steps, step by step one inch at a time.

Feeling the edge of the car door, home door and rubbin her hand over it over and

over. NOT budging, and lining her body up and visually acclimating herself to

her spot, then moving one inch and doing it over and over. She has never done

any of these before. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated. For the

first time in her life, I am considering medication (SSRI's)

Is she working with an OT for sensory issues?

My daughter did a lot of things like this before she officially started her

period at 12yrs. She also had tons of sensory and anxiety. These things would

lead to aggression. I'm not one for medication but I had to do something. Our

lives were miserable. I wouldn't tell anyone to go this route but it was the

only thing that helped our child feel better. It helped our enitre family. Her

language improved a great deal too. I couldn't believe the difference in her. I

hope she doesn't have to be on it for a life time but I have come to terms with

the fact that she might. All the natural stuff did not work for her any longer.

Every child is different. Good luck to you.
