Hi All!

This afternoon I took to the streets and ran through my new

neighborhood for the first time. I got to explore new roads, some

signed " not improved " meaning they were just gravel, and after about 20

blocks of running I walked up a very steep hill through Mt. Tabor,

where it costs a lot of money to live and the homes and views therein

are fantastic.

What a fun route this is! I was so anxious to start running again and

training for the 5K Shamrock Run that I forgot to wear my heart rate

monitor to log the time spent and calories burned, but boy it felt

great to run again! There is such a sense of freedom while running and

the endorphin high from it is like nothing else.

I finally received my ChaLEAN Extreme set yesterday and I'm excited to

start :) I first listened to the motivational audio cd and this is

info you've all heard before but need to hear again and again, tidbits

such as wearing baggy clothes to hide your fat, using food as a way to

put off tasks at hand at work, an excuse to take a break from it, how

to involve others in your fitness journey so they don't resent you or

alienate you, etc. I will upload this to my iPod and listen to it more

than once for sure to help keep me on track. I adore Chalene and love

hearing her voice cheer me along my journey!

The healthy eats and kitchen makeover clip was fun, especially because

you got to be in the 's kitchen with Chalene, her husband,

Brett, and children Cierra and Brock. Every family member had a recipe

to share, and Chalene offered some great ideas for preparing food to

grab and go in portions to keep you from overeating. She is a busy

person and knows that we are too and need quick and easy recipes /

things to make.

My only critique is that most of the food shown was canned,

prepackaged, processed and full of chemicals, but then again I like to

cook and take the time to cook from scratch. It's worth it to me to

eat organic and chemical free when possible, as I really and truly feel

that a lot of modern ailments can be attributed to the additives,

preservatives and chemicals we put into our body. Bottom line - if

there are more than 2 words you can barely pronounce on a food label

you probably shouldn't consume it. Spend a couple of hours on Sunday

evening making your meals for the week from scratch! Listen to some

music while you do it, make it a special ritual. Knowing where your

food comes from will give you a greater respect for it, all the labor

that went into picking it and getting it to you, the animal that had to

die to nourish you can help you savor each bite when you know that it

is a special gift..

Next I watched the burn and band basics on the same dvd. This is an

EXCELLENT dvd and a must watch before executing the exercises, as

Chalene has her exercisers demonstrate proper form while she points out

the various details of proper form and alignment and what the common

pitfalls are. As an insructor I found it to have a wealth of good cues

to use in my own classes.

I don't normally like using bands for strength training because it

strains my hands and feet sometimes, but if you are travelling you

could totally take your bands and CXT dvd's with you to play on your

laptop! They weigh almost nothing and take up very little space. I

appreciate that there is always an exerciser showing all of the reps

with bands as an alternative.

I haven't read the books that came with ChaLEAN Extreme yet, but at

first glance it appears you simply do Burn Circuits 1, 2, and 3 each

week for the first month and then do some cardio and other abdominal

and additional workouts on the other days. THIS IS TOTALLY DOABLE! I

love that there is freedom to do other stuff on the non CXT days, you

just need to eat mindfully and do your 3 CXT workouts per week and add

in other workouts of your choice in between.

I watched part of Burn Circuit 1 and the workout is composed of

compound exercises, going slow and heavy. This is great - not only is

lifting heavier with fewer reps a more effective way to build muscle,

going slow allows you to focus more on form and control.

I can't wait to start! Between CXT, running, PiYo and Turbo Kick I should look and feel a lot better in 90 days!
