Classic and very typical low K. Over 1400 of salt a day and and K goes bye-bye as blood pressure shoots up. We have an illness - a syndrome - just cutting down on salt doesn't seem to do it, it's getting down to 1400 a day or less and that does it. Cutting down would help the normal person, and the media has made a big deal about high blood pressure and salt, but they are not talking about PA and they don't have Conn's. We're different. It seems there isn't an "almost" with Conn's. I go over 1400 and I know it - first anxious, then BP rises dangerously, then headache, then pee all night. Stay under and I feel great. Spiro isn't like many a diabetic treats their insulin where they say I can eat more of this as I will just take more insulin. For us we can easily outsalt the benefits of spiro

, is Spiro the only med you are on? I never experienced the SX you describe so I'll let others talk with you about K and MG but it took me 11 months to get diet to a point where Spiro fully worked! (I now know that there may have been a couple meds working against me; single daily dose of furosemide and beta blockers and a-,b-blockers can induce salt and water retention.) - 64 yo morb. ob. male - 12mm X 13mm rt. a.adnoma with previous rt. flank & testicle pain. I have decided against an adrenalectomy at this time since Meds. are working so well. Current BP(last week ave): 123/69Other Issues/Opportunities: OSA w Bi-Pap settings 13/19, DM2. and PTSD.Meds: Duloxetine hcl 80 MG, Mirtazapine 15 MG, Metoprolol Tartrate 200 MG, 81mg asprin, Metformin 2000MG and Spironolactone 50 MG. >> I have been dashing for a while, but not able to get control of my sodium. I found Ezekiel bread at the store. The Low sodium kind has 0 sodium. Yesterday I ate mostly fruits, vegetables, yogurt, and egg beaters. My total sodium was under 800. I was proud and thought I did a good thing.> > However, last night I woke up with a horrible night sweat. Soon after I got the worst charlie horse in my calf that I have ever had. I felt horrible. I had gotten up 4 times to pee before this and it was only 3:30 a.m. > > I really thought eating healthy would have the opposite affect! I don't want to give up on the low salt, but I don't want another night like last night.> > Any thoughts? Is this a typical outcome Dr. Grim? I generally eat between 1800-3000 sodium per day. I am on

50mg of Spiro.> > > 34 yr male. CT inconclusive. Current testing for GRA. 50 mg spiro (25 twice per day). Diagnosed 04/2011.>

Guess they have not used Furosemide much or treated much HTN. Tell then to keep at it and they will get it right for the other pts they are treating or not treating correctly.CE Grim MD Francis, you say you are on 60 mg of furosemide, is that once or twice/day? I know the "rules" say it can be administered either way but Dr. Grim advised me that due to the short half life it would eliminate NA part of the day and your body would retain NA the rest of the time! (I call it the treadmill effect, work like hell and get nowhere!) I was on 40mg once a day and edema (ankle swelling) completely went away when it went away! (Another ah-ha moment for a couple of VA doctors since I insisted and they predicted I would "swell like the Pillsbury Dough Boy"!) - 64 yo morb. ob. male - 12mm X 13mm rt. a.adnoma with previous rt. flank & testicle pain. DASH will do most of the job in 2 weeks if it is going to work. CE Grim MD Classic and very typical low K. Over 1400 of salt a day and and K goes bye-bye as blood pressure shoots up.
