Guest guest
I started the TJ Cardio Party tonight and I was really getting into it! I've gotten much better at following cues, so I was more intent on putting power into the jabs, hooks and such. Bad idea... I had to stop about half way through because of back pain. This is first time it's really made itself known and said, " Stop now, or else... " I know what the 'else' is, so I stopped. I did do some floor exercises after that, which helped relax my back. I think I put too much power into the moves and lost the posture control. I'll have to see what it feels like in the morning to see if I'll have an unplanned rest day... Guest guest
When throwing punches and even knee-ups etc keep the core muscles tight. Pain felt during a workout is cause for concern I'm glad you did some stretching and felt better after. Power in punches is ok so long as your muscles are warm when doing it, take it easy during the warm up and don't overextend and you should be fine. Good luck hope your pain goes away and your next workout is good:) Jaclyn Indyrose:Next time don't do the Wheel and for the back kicks keep them low. Guest guest
sorry to hear that you had back pain during the air thrashing you were giving it. Are you prone to back pain or is this something new.. Keep your pelvis tucked in and best of luck the next time you give it a twirl.. > > I started the TJ Cardio Party tonight and I was really getting into it! Guest guest
Hi Indyrose, I don't mean to contradict "hugs" but if you are like me the pelvic tucking will give your back fits - I can't do a prolonged pelvic tuck in part b/c my lumbar curve is too flat already (which is one of my issues with my back) so flattening it out even more is not a good thing for me. I always have to maintain a "neutral" posture or I'm in big trouble. I can tuck for short periods of time, but I'm far better off in neutral spine and then doing some extension exercises afterwards to re-establish a good curve in my lumbar spine. Guest guest
Unfortunately, yes, I've got a herniated disc between L4-5, which is about 4 years old now. It's mostly healed, but not 100%, and it can rear its ugly head whenever it wants. For the most part, the workouts have done it a world of good, strengthening muscles around it to support it. But ever-so-often, I do " something " to aggravate it, like last night. I keep forgetting that I'm not 20 anymore. Guest guest
The backkicks were definitely irritating! But I think the trunk twisting for cross punches was the real killer, rather than the wheel. The wheel DEMANDS that you keep the core good and tight. I was trying to put in power and keep up with the tempo, and my form just went to ...pot. Guest guest
Hi Indyrose, I hope by now the pain has subsided. The tilt and tuck type moves Chalene uses in the Cardio Parties aggravate my back pain. Its fine in the simpler videos because the speed is slower. For those videos I either do a quick jog or march in place or jumping jacks. I'm certified to tech (but don't) Turbo Kick and the rounds don't really bother my back because the moves aren't really in there and if I do see one once in a while at breakneck speed I modify. One thing I have found to be helpful is that if my back hurts during or after a workout I IMMEDIATELY do a few yoga stretches: cat, cow, downward dog, seated twist and reclined cobbler's pose. That seems to keep my muscles from staying seized up. I follow with a warm bath and ALOT of water. a > > I started the TJ Cardio Party tonight and I was really getting into it! Guest guest
Or it could be the Wheel.....lol. I love that move though. The thing about back kicks- if they bother your back its a huge sign you need to spend some time on strengthening your erector spinae muscles in your lower back. Supermans, alternating leg and arm floor moves etc. a > > > > > > > I started the TJ Cardio Party tonight and I was really getting into it! > > I've gotten much better at following cues, so I was more intent on putting > > power into the jabs, hooks and such.
