My daughter goes to a cy-fair school and they have gotten on my last nerve! She

is in 5th grade now and has been diagnosed since 4th grade with mild aspbergers.

So she doesn't need a lot of modifications but what she needs cy-fair just

refuses to do them, or let me rephrase that, they promise they will do it and

then don't follow thru. Like we had an ARD on Nov. 30 last year and I had

requested that the autism team come work with her teachers because they just

don't seem to get how to talk to her. They talk over her head and she gets

upset and crys and has a bad day and gets points taken away from her bip when

all this could be avoided. I brought in her social skills coach--we go to a

private social skills class and one teacher sat across from us with her arms

folded and never took a note one but said I don't know why Im under attack like

this! The coach said to her, we aren't attacking anyone, we just want you to

understand how to talk to her so that she will understand and thus prevent a

meltdown. She just " humpf " and ignored us. And this particualr teacher is her

homeroom teacher, won't come to the ARD, she sends someone else.

I have talked to the school psychologist regarding that request because at the

ARD we had she was there and it was also her idea to pull my child out once a

month--for some one on one time! And the ABA team was going to work with the

teachers. So when I followed up on it, the psychologist says, oh that is a

different dept and I will have to research that. Here is what cyfair will do,

they will wait till may and maybe have one or two sessions with the teachers and

then it is summer! So what has that solved? I have talked to everyone I can

think of and still nothing. They punish her when she forgets her bip chart in

another room. They try to take credit for things I set up for her. Their big

thing now is we have to get her transitioned and ready for jr. high. They have

done nothing of the sort! So I said fine, I will do it on my own, instead of

her carrying one notebook, which you;d think would be easy, not for her. I set

up a small folder w/ her paper and other things in it for each subject, then I

said I want her to carry her backpack to each class so that she doesn't have to

shove her papers in a desk and forget about them. So far it has worked very

well for her. The teachers hated the idea of her carrying her backpack, but I

told them " tough kitty " . My child and if you won't work with her, then I

will!!!

They are still stuck on her saying she lies and she doesn't, it is them. I just

don't get it! We have decided we aren't going to put her in a cyfair jr. high,

it is too dangerous for her and if in 2 years actually 4 years they have

basically failed her (we had been begging them to test her since 2nd grade and

they gave us the woodstock johnston forms, we filled them out and they went no

where from there) Every year we begged them to test her and they said they saw

no reason to do so, even though she had the crying outbursts etc..and other

things, but that is a long story in itself. I feel the cyfair jr. high she will

get hurt physically. Kids are already trying to hurt her now and it is in a

" half ass " monitored enviroment. She won't do well in a timed place where she

has to get from place to place in 7 mins. and we already asked them about a

buddy system etc...and they already said no, she is fine and will do ok. I

don't think so, her anxiety level will go so high she will be a nervous wreck!

Im not sure what we are going to do, but if anyone doesn't know this already,

cyfair is trying to cut out special ed instruction for the mildly impaired kids

and just shove it on the teachers. From what I have learned your child has to

be profoundly disabled to continue modifications/special instruction with cyfair

because they claim they don't have the money etc...Im so sick of cyfair. I have

heard katy does a half way decent job, but how do you get cyfair to let her go

and get katy to accept her? Even after her social skills coach went to talk to

the pricipal and teachers, she even told me--you do not want her going to a

cyfair jr. high, they will destroy her! Scary words!!!!

Well I'd appreciate any input anyone has!

Thanks!
