LDN and Constipation

Hmm.

I have been taking 10mg Baclofen, 1000Magnesium and 300Milk Thistle while thinking that these would mainly help with the spasticity. 2x500mg Magnesium Oxide (needs Calcium), & 2x150mg Milk Thistle. I too was unable to discern a change, in spasticity at least, so...

2 weeks ago I stopped Baclofen. Last week I stopped taking Mag. & Thistle and just let the 4.5mg LDN do the work. Last week my sleepy time spasticity in the legs started easing and each day it has gotten better.

Monday I restarted a NoMilk diet and expect that with enough fiber in fruit like apples and delicious pitted prunes, etc. I will maintain regularity.

This site has some great ideas on dealing with constipation.

Pure Magnesium.. not adding up the secondary amount in Calcium/Mag pills!

I was taking 3 250s, the first ones I had had 42mg calcium in each of them, and they were coated, so easy to swallow. When I ran out of them, I got some other ones that were just 250s, no coating, nothing else, did NOT work.

I picked up Mag 400s, no calcium, in capsules, and they seem to work. I also picked up some Milk Thistle 70mg and have also been taking them. Not sure I notice any difference from them.

Someone emailed me last night asking for remedies on the constipation issues LDN can cause. Can anyone out there help this patient?

yes, THERE ARE SEVERAL THINGS TO HELP CONSTIPATION. ONE IS A TWO BOTTLE REMEDY CALLED MULTI-FIBER AND MULTI-HERB. YOU DRINK ALOT OF WATER WITH ANY FIBER PRODUCT AND THIS PARTICULAR ONE INSURES REALLY QUICK RESULTS. THE NUMBER TO ORDER IS 800-297-3273. ALSO, ANY OF BRENDA WATKINS COLON CLEANSING PRODUCTS ARE EXCELLENT AND THEY SAY 95% OF CONDITIONS Start in the colon so it is far better to have loose stools than being constipated. At that point your toxic overload can really tax the system. For a more subtle effect, moderate doses of flax and fish oil are good because they are like an oil change for your body and also supply lipids to the brain for Alzheimer's, parkinsons, ms, and other neurodegenerative conditions. It is good for everyone to cleanse once a season whether they feel they need it or not. The Chinese believe the colon is the second brain. I know constipation is one of the reasons for brain fog as I get high powered colonics a couple times a year and leave the session with much clarity of thought. Kathy

I take approx. 5 tbsp. of ground flax every day but it is still hit and

miss. The more carbs like white flour I eat the worse it gets (which I

try not to do). Will try Larry's Magnesium suggestion and see if that

helps more.

I use golden flax also but my understanding is that it must be ground

fresh to get the full effect. Eating the seeds would be good bulk but

you dont release the oils until it is ground.

I use Golden Flaxseed (called Golden Linseed in UK).

I eat the seeds (20-30g) in juice with a spoon.

In US measures I think thats about 1 Ounce,

cover with OJ or whatever you prefer and eat.

Flaxseed also is a source of PUFAs (Omega 3+6) so

its very good on both counts. Lots of fruit and veg

are vital but I need the extra fibre in Flaxseed.

It is also cheap (approx 2 USD per pound) and organic

sources are available in healthfood stores.

Its impossible to overdose - adjust the amount you

take according to the effect.

Kind regards,

Mark

This is a recipe I got from a PT who specializes in women's issues. It

works, it's cheap and healthy, and doesn't taste half-bad.

1/2 c. unprocessed wheat bran

1/2 c applesauce

1/4-1/3 c. prune juice (enough to make a thick batter)

You can have enough for a week or two (depending on how much you take by

mixing all together and dropping by tablespoonfuls in individual

compartments of ice-cube trays, covering, and freezing (one compartment

usually takes about 2 Tb). Take 2-4 Tb. each night, mixed with a bit

more applesauce and followed by 6-8 oz. of water. It takes a few days to

work, so you need to take it regularly. I defrost mine in the microwave

and add the applesauce.

Yes, it can be one of the side effects of LDN. I hit a week, when I first started taking LDN, where I was extremely dried out everywhere. I called my pharmacist at Irmat and he told me LDN can do that, and it is temporary. To combat it...I drank a lot of water...took Benefiber, and Calcium/Magnesium supplement during the day.

Hope the info helps.

Hi, I started 1 week ago, 3mg nightly LDN. I thought I was a little more

constipated than usual, however I always take alot of fiber. But that thought

did occur to me. Now after hearing youz guys maybe it was indeed related to the

LDN. Also my skin has been really dry although this time of the year it usually

is dried. But I think it is a little more drier than usual. Bob

increase your magnesium intake. that should get things moving. From: "jam2006@..." <jam2006@...>low dose naltrexone Sent: Sun, December 20, 2009 1:07:35 PMSubject: [low dose naltrexone] LDN and Constipation

I do all the right things to try and keep regular and have had a history of constipation in my lifetime. Now it's worse on very low dose LDN. Is this one of the side effects? NOT take narcotic pain pills ever was because I knew they caused constipation. Now, here I am getting rid of some pain but worse constipation.

Anyone relate? Thanks....joyce

What are you taking ldn for? MS can cause constipation, so it may be unrelated to the LDN, it could just be part of the disease (or even other factors). On Sun, Dec 20, 2009 at 2:07 PM, jam2006@... <jam2006@...> wrote:

Get a good probiotic with at least 10 strains of microflora. Start out with two a day and increase to three or four if necessary. When things start to straighten out, you can cut back to one a day or one eod. My naturopath told me this and it has been working great.
