Guest guest
Hi Melinda, May I ask what medication your daughter is taking for anxiety and how old was she when she started? My daughter is nearing 8 and she has an appt. this coming Monday with a dr. who may suggest trying a medication. Thanks for the info. Karmen Re: Getting Older HI Heidi, My " baby " is 17.5 years old! Teen years have been, ummm, interesting, but they truly are getting much better. I could write a book about all the experiences we've had--I am sure we all could. For us, medication does help a lot with anxiety, as does Yoga. And lots of social stories, calendars, lists of rules...these are things that help my Em feel safe and also to have a better sense of what to expect, which is key for her comfort. So, she and I have grown quite a bit. I know every child is different, but there is a great group here so feel free to ask questions and share. I tend to get really busy and I've gotten away from this list, but I am making it a point to check in and stay more connected. I think it is easy to feel disconnected and isolated, and we all need to hear a kindly word and know we aren't alone in our struggles and celebrations as we raise our beautiful girls. Guest guest
HI Karmen, Sorry for the delay in response. My daughter has tried Celexa, Prozac and Zoloft at various times. Things can change over time, meds can stop working or there may be dose adjustments needed. Right now she is on Celexa, 20mg. Every child is different, though, and it can be a trial and error thing. B vitamin complex, Yoga, " magic spray " ( botanical that soothes), a list of strategies, all help her also. Let us know how it goes! Guest guest
Hi Melinda, My daughter has to get a battery of tests done prior to putting her on meds, however, once the test results are in the dr. is first starting her on Clonodine. From there he will try other meds. Its a start. Thank you for sharing, Karmen Re: Re: Getting Older-Melinda HI Karmen, Sorry for the delay in response.
