Guest guest
I just read on slaw that according to NCLB, all children, by third grade, should be reading at grade level. How does this support or conflict with IDEA? My daughter is 9 years old, and not yet reading. I was just looking over her 6 week report, and again, almost no mastered skills. I structured her IEP goals so that nearly every one relates to reading, with objectives that I feel she is capable of mastering. The goals themselves are more or less like last year's goals, of which few were mastered. I suppose my questions are, how do I demonstrate that she's not making adequate progress? How do I fight the school when the only measurement they use is " continuing to make progress " or " insufficient progress " ? Does NCLB apply to my child in the spirit or the letter of the law? Is it too early in the year to start a fight? Any input is appreciated. Aliza
