Guest guest
Sleeping patterns are a tricky thing. It could be related to hormones...or is just the emergence of her own sleep needs. Is she sleeping during the day at all? Has she become more energenic all together, or is it just the later sleeping time that has changed? Â There are medications out there that can help with sleeping problems; however, with children I think it is best to seek out other alternatives. You can try to increase her physical activity to include more areobic type activities that may help her feel more tired and need more sleep. Â Developing a bedtime routine can be very helpful. Warm fluids can be calming, if there are no issues with bed wetting. However, if this is an issue of her only needing a lessor amount of sleep, you may find yourself up at odd times of the night when her body decides it has had enough sleep. Â Good luck! Subject: sleep To: Autism_in_Girls_and_Women Date: Sunday, January 17, 2010, 12:40 PM Â Tried to search under this topic but no luck ( I assume it's me not the board ! ) Just wondering if people here have some information about what worked for them My 12 yr old has started not going to sleep until 11pm or later(instead of 9.30ish as before ) and still wakes up between 6.30 and 7.30am. and she keeps me awake also ----which is wearing me out since I have my own sleeping issues plus have to get up at 6am and need AT LEAST 8 hrs I've seen recomends re melatonin but that is not available in Australia I'm trying herbal sleep tablets with her with little success (quitens a bit but not sleeping earlier ) i.e. valerian/passionflo wer/hops etc combination any good tips ? thanks Helen
Guest guest
My HFA daughter is now 11. When she was 9, I took her to a children's hospital for an overnight sleep study. I would highly reccomend it. I have also done sleep studies myself. Both places said that many people with sleep disorders have low iron, which we both do. I wouldn't take iron without being tested first though. We were also told to take melatonin. If you can't get it there, get it online. It helps a ton. My daughter was disgnosed with Alpha-Delta sleep, Insomnia, and mild Obstructive Apneas. I have Sleep Phase Delay Syndrome, and Central Sleep Apnea. Hope this has been some help. Have a great day, ~C~
Guest guest
sleep can be of greatly altered for me to the negative side.. but my normal patttern is of 4-6 hours of broken sleep as the average but if getting sick it will be of 2 hours like from 10-12 at night and then awake until 5-6 am and then sleep another 1-2 hours. so for me when sleep is of very altered for me it means my body is of sick and not yet aware of where or of what. sondra
Guest guest
got some Melatonin - have used for 2 days but at too low a dose - instructions say 3 tablets (3mg per tablet) before bed and i was only giving 1 . She is not going to sleep before midnight at the moment - it's been Ok while on school holidays ( I'm in Australia) but school goes back and she will have to be up at 7am . I have tried getting her to put her music away by 9.30pm but she is staying awake and then putting it back on - if I remove it then she turns on the TV ( no TV after 7 pm rule has worked for ages )and then has tantrums later - so I am letting her listen to music in her room (not loud and just things like abba ) - not ideal but stops her getting upset . Hoping things improve with the melatonin soon - how long did it take for others to see results? thanks > > My HFA daughter is now 11. Guest guest
2 things to share on one for me the melatonin was of an instant change for me I to take of 3 to 6 mgs a night depends on the need, but fall asleep within an hour of taking it. and will sleep much good for 4 hours or so but without it will sleep of not good with multiple wakings and disrupted sleep. for me and I to suspect of you daughter the music and or TV is of a tool to filter out the back ground noise and is of a need for her to calm , regulate and fall asleep like a comforter that soothes. so when removed from her it causes a severe panic because her tool to find sleep has and calm has been of removed. sometimes these items can be of like white noise to some of us and is of helpful and it appears she uses them as tools and self adapting to cause the noise that is of causing her anxiety and stress to the point of no sleep. I would be of to allow of her the music but a low volume and with lights off at a certain time. sondra
