Guest guest
Aletha, The price better not go up! The National Monster Society can find another disease to "help" and get the drug companies to sponsor them. I don't really think that the price will go up because there is no patent on LDN. Guest guest
Hi Baptiste, The application that you are looking at is for doctors to fill out in order to be able to be on the National Multiple Sclerosis Society list (which is a non-profit group that is supposed to help people with Multiple Sclerosis). They are an organization that has a lot of power in the world of Multiple Sclerosis and medicine. It is supposed to be very helpful for people with MS and therefore once someone learns they have MS they usually will turn to them for help. The doctors that they put on there list would most likely be the first doctors that most MS patients would turn to. What many people on this chat site believe is that this non-profit group does not want to acknowledge LDN as a possible help to people with MS because of 2 reasons. *One is that there is no money to be made with it from the large pharmacy companies (there is no patent and no pharmacy can claim the market) and these large pharmacies are thought to give large donations to this non-profit organization (NMSS), therefore the organization does not want to add doctors to their list if they are looking at alternative medicines like LDN. At least that is the theory. *The second reason that the NMSS would not like to acknowledge LDN is that it has not had any scientific trials that could be concrete evidence that it works for MS. Many of us believe that it does work and much better than the CRAB drugs (which the pharmacies make great sums of money with, and which the doctors on the NMSS group list will prescribe). So indirectly this group which is supposed to be helping MS patients is advocating to them to use these expensive medications that have terrible side effects and do not help as well as LDN. Many of us are hoping that there will be clinical trials of LDN soon, so that it can help as many people with MS as possible. Some of us however are hoping that LDN does not get recognition from the scientific community as they worry that the price will go way up once the big pharmacies get involved. I hope I have explained the situation to you and what the list is that you are looking at. If I have misinterpreted anything in this message, I invite any input from other chatters. Kind regards Aletha [low dose naltrexone] Help for translation please, thanks > > > Dear all, hello > > on > http://www.nationalmssociety.org/ALC/more_content/professionals/phys_r > eferral.doc > > is a questionnaire the NMSS has the doctor fill for being on their > referral list. Guest guest
I'm going to take a shot at this, and I hope that what I type in blue comes through that way because there is more than one question in this email and I want to put my answers below each question so that there is some reference point to the answers I am attempting to give. Date: Sun, 10 Apr 2005 21:11:46 -0000 From: " renaudjba1 " <renaudjba@...> Subject: Help for translation please, thanks Dear all, hello on http://www.nationalmssociety.org/ALC/more_content/professionals/phys_r eferral.doc is a questionnaire the NMSS has the doctor fill for being on their referral list. I'm French and there is many things I cannot understand. Could someone help me ? I only ask for things in this questionnaire that I do not understand : _____________________________________________________ 2a. What is/are your professional degree(s)? ? MD ? DO ? MD, PhD in____________________ What is a degree ? A degree is given by a university after a person has completed a required course of study. Our school systems in this country are quite different from what I understand of the French school system. When a French student graduates from high school (from the 12th grade, or whatever is your last grade of basic education) he or she has the equivalent of what we would generally consider to be a Bachelor's degree here, or at least he will have that if he has gone to a certain type of school. People I have known who have come here from France for higher education at a university generally enroll in a program for a Master's or Doctoral degree because their high school education has covered what our universities cover in their Bachelor's degree programs. I do not understand the abreviations MD, DO, PhD Someone else gave a good definition of what these degrees mean. I'll just add that a PhD is the highest degree that most universities give to people. The order is generally a Bachelor's degree, then sometimes a Master's degree, and finally a PhD, which is also called a Doctoral degree. A Doctoral degree does not necessarily have anything to do with medicine. It is just the highest degree on the ladder in any field other than medicine. _____________________________________________________ 2b.Please describe any post-graduate training have you had in MS? What is a post-graduate degree ? Post-graduate degrees are degrees that people receive when they go on to do further study after they have received a Bachelor's degree. Most people who go to a university in this country receive a Bachelor's degree. After getting that degree, most people get a job that their degree has prepared them for. All medical degrees are post-graduate degrees, and I think that is what this particular survey question is asking about. I think that it is asking doctors what specific training they received after they received their Bachelor's degree and entered medical school, and how it applies to treating MS patients. _____________________________________________________ 3a. Are you Board Certified? ? yes ? no b. If not, are you Board Eligible? ? yes ? no c. Which Board(s)? What is a board ? A board is a professional organization of sorts which sets up standards for doctors in various areas. Their are boards in psychiatry, immunology, neurology, etc. How to get board eligible ? By getting a medical degree, and probably further training in a specialty such as neurology. ______________________________________________________ 7. Approx. number of CME hours specifically related to MS in last two years? ______ CME ??? I do not understand CME stands for Continuing Medical Education. I am a medical laboratory technician/medical technologist, and I have to have a certain number of hours of continuing medical education every year to keep my certification to work in medical laboratories. I do not think that doctors generally have to have continuing medical education to be able to continue practicing as doctors, but most doctors attend a lot of conferences and take courses to learn about new developments in their specific fields, and that is what this question is referring to. ______________________________________________________ Diagnosis & Second Opinion I do not understand what it refers to ??? If I recall this questionnaire correctly (I downloaded it and looked at it), this question is asking whether or not a particular doctor's practice gives both diagnosis and second opinions to patients. In other words, do they diagnose patients with MS, and do they give second opinions to patients who have been diagnosed with MS. Often a patient who gets some diagnosis will go to another doctor to get a second opinion, in other words they want a second doctor to evaluate whether or not the diagnosis they received was the correct one. ______________________________________________________ Ongoing medical management I do not understand what it refers to ??? I think ongoing medical management is ongoing treatment of a patient's disease and other conditions which the patient may also have. In other words, this question is asking whether a doctor just diagnoses patients and sends them on their way with a prescription, or whether the doctor follows up with the patients and follows their progress once they have started treatment. ______________________________________________________ Thanks for help Portez vous bien, Baptiste I hope this all helps a bit. That questionnaire was a bit confusing to me at times, and it's written in my primary language! Portez vous bien aussi, Vali
