Guest guest
Hi everyone, My daughter Melody will be five in March, and she is high-functioning Autistic. We found out she was Autistic when she was just under two, and got some great help for her. ABA five days a week, plus speech therapy and play therapy. Melody started talking at the age of three, and has been very high functioning ever since. She still has Autistic behaviors, but nothing like she used to. My big problem is potty training her! She has NO interest whatsoever in the potty. I've tried rewards, I've tried just eliminating pullups, and all that causes is a mess, because she won't tell me she has to pee or poop until it's too late. She has pooped on the potty ONCE and that was because I caught her in time, noticing that she was grabbing her butt and took her to the potty quickly. She would walk around in a poopy pullup all day if I didn't check her....she just doesn't seem to care or notice. When she wears underwear and she pees, she sometimes doesn't even say anything at all, or she will just say PEE! After she's already gone. I would love to hear any helpful hints or ideas to get my girl potty trained. She starts mainstream kindergarten in September, and I can't have her in a pullup! HELP! please!
