We were with the Masai for a day in 1997. I don't think they are an ideal of

health, but boy do I remember the smell of the fermented milk! :P I was trying

to remember if they mixed blood or cow dung ash into the milk & found this

tidbit: " [cow] blood is then mixed with milk in a gourd which has been washed

with urine to prevent spoilage. " wow!

:)

As much as it sounds gross. Urine is sterile and will kill bad bacteria in the gourd which allows for a much safer fermentation process. On 22-Feb-10, at 11:36 PM-22-Feb-10, keepmyeyesonheaven wrote: We were with the Masai for a day in 1997.
