Guest guest
It's been reported and confirmed by our office that the Waller I.S.D. sent out report cards to parents district wide with a 5 to 15 percent variance on them and has yet to correct them. When contacting them the Superintendent refused to take my call or comment.. but his kind receptionist verified that was indeed the case. A parent called early today notifying me of this.... her child had an 85 in one class, which was reported as a 58. So this hard working child who received a B or B+ type of grade..was instead reported to his parents as failing. After urging the I.S.D. to send out a correction to all parents.. they failed to do so. Again today I urged the office of the superintendent to send this out. If I do not hear back it will go to the T.E.A. and onward to the USDOE and USDOJ OCR... as it's definitely incorrect to do this to children .. I wonder how many are grounded right now or restricted from an activity due to the districts mistake ? It's one thing to make a mistake.. we all make them. It's another to agree you made a mistake and then do absolutely nothing to correct it. What I found out today is that the TEA will actually increase funding to help the district raise the grades of the children...who indeed do not need any help in this area.. instead the district needs to fix their darn program for their computer and issue a letter to all parents apologizing for the mistake and correcting it.. I personally believe the children deserve an apology as well. How this came about was even more mind boggling. This older brother has hair to his shoulders..and has been put in an 'in school suspension' a young Christian lad that has excellent grades, attendance, and a high level of morality in his other actions in life.. is in with the kids that have severely broken rules. Even more astounding... an often used substitute teacher for his class is a male with a ponytail. Makes no sense does it ? Then... we have his little brother. Legally blind and put into a corner for time out, held outside of the classroom until all others have entered due to behaviors and of course no FBA or BIP to do any of these actions... the very worse part of it... denial of a Para for him...and then denial of an additional para for the class stating that the child 'shouldn't become too dependent ' and the often used TX excuse " we don't do that " ... okay now.. A child that is blind more then likely will end up with a service dog and definitely depend on that...and as will depend on many to help him through his life. The denial of the Para was in my opinion denial of FAPE... the use of a corner for time out for a blind child is just well.. ignorance at it's best. The child will not see the corner...and as well has no BIP to even allow it. Soooo... the ignorance with the I.S.D.'s goes marching on. A phone call about big brother and his hair he doesn't want to cut turned into a report that has been verified as stated..that the entire district misreported grades and refuses to correct that. Then we get the little brother situation... blind, no para.. no FBA/BIP yet behavioral intervention taking place.... Can we all shout out loud at one time " Get a CLUE " ! I hope this message reaches all in peace... E. , Sr. Nationwide Special Education Advocate/Adviser www.officeofautismadvocacy.com
